[Korean Box Office] Hollywood Films Dominate In March

It comes as no surprise that Hollywood productions outdid local films this month, as March is typically a slack season for the local industry. But given the strong box office performance of late, the slump might have come as a shock to some observers. Zack Snyder's "300" led the pack, at #1 for its second week and taking in over $13 million on 318 screens. European co-production "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer," which opened on 232 screens, took in $2.2 million, while "The Number 23" landed the number 3 slot at $1.4 million on 170 screens. "The Break-Up" debuted at number 5, showing on 150 screens and taking in $910,000. Two Korean pictures made the Top Ten this week: Sai Yoichi's ultraviolent revenge thriller "Soo," using the by-now hackneyed storyline of twins separated from childhood (for those who never tire of this kind of crap, there is the upcoming TV drama “Cain and Abel" [카인과 아벨] about two brothers, one a killer, the other a detective, who also just happen to have been separated in childhood), took in only $940,000 on 244 screens and "Big Bang," after 11 days in theatres, registered $2.3 million.
