[Korean Film News] Two New Booklets Added to Korean Directors Series

(Posted In Asia Film News )

Im Kwon-taek.gifThe Korean Film Council (KOFIC) has recently published two new booklets on directors Im Kwon-taek and Kim Ki-young, as part of the ‘Korean Film Directors Series' publishing project. Written and edited by Chung Seong-il and Kim Hong-Jun, two of Korea's top critics, the series, which is published in English, will be distributed world wide through Seoul Selection, a publishing company devoted to spreading Korean culture. The 'Korean Film Directors Series' publishing project began in 2005 as an experimental project whose goal was to create individual brand images for each director and to have them promoted globally. The first booklets, on directors Park Chan-wook, Bong Joon-ho and Ryoo Seung-wan, were distributed to the world's leading film industry personnel, stirring up quite a reaction. In 2006, it was decided to expand the project. A total of 7 directors were chosen and several renowned critics including Chung Sung-ill, Kim Hong-joon, Kim Young-jin, Heo Mun-young, Chung Han-seok and others took part in the project. Booklets on Lee Chang-dong, Hong Sang-soo, Jang Sun-woo and Kim Dong-won are planned for the first half of 2007. Additionally, KOFIC will select 5 more Korean directors this year for inclusion in the series. The first three booklets are available for free download at KOFIC's website.
