Now, all we have to do is hope for English Subtitles on this release, as per 'Mind Game'.
Still, we've been disappointed in recent days by the lack of inclusion for Subtitles on the Japanese DVD of 'Paprika' by Satoshi Kon, but releaved that the R2 UK DVD date still seems set for the Monday which follows the opening weekend in America. Hope that one sticks.
Still, for now, as we've done some request to blanket email Japanese Companies in the past - something I've semi-abandoned because I don't how well people respond to it; both readers here and companies there - I would say that the more vocal, regular coverage here is perhaps a little more subtle and successful at persuading companies of a non-domestic interest in their domestic releases.
That issue will perhaps never be resolved to everyone's taste, but there you go, we can at least keep plugging away at showing our love for stuff, in the hope things pull around to at least some extent as the years go by... for now, this Blu-Ray listing at CDJapan is hinting at the release for 'Tekkon Kinkreet' coming there this Summer (product code is ANSX-5022) and so I expect this to be cleared up relatively quickly with a publication of a Japanese Press Release online somewhere in the next 24 hours or so. Still, Sony has this and 'Paprika' for USA release.

Hi, Michael here. I directed TEKKON. Thanks so much for your interest in our movie.
There won't be English subtitles on the domestic (Japanese) DVD release of TEKKON. There are a couple reasons for this.
Mainly, international DVD releases will be forthcoming shortly with subtitled and dubbed versions. Actually there's not much delay at all between Japanese and international DVD releases, as far as I know, and I don't think a couple of months' wait will hurt anyone. Have to give the movie a chance to play in theaters outside Japan first, after all.
The English subtitles on the Japanese DVD of MINDGAME were actually a mistake - subtitles rushed for a festival and then inadvertantly included on the domestic DVD, to our great regret. I can't tell you how distressing it was to find MINDGAME, in its entirety, subtitled no less, on Youtube shortly after it was in the Japanese shops. Net piracy is a separate issue of course, but having subtitles on there effectively torpedoed international distribution for us.
I'm in New York now for the North American premiere of TEKKONKINKREET at MoMA. For those interested, there's some more TEKKON info. at:
