'Freedom Project' Simultaneous USA & Japan HD/DVD June 26th 2007.

Yes, two volumes on good old DVD are released in Japan already, but this specifically refers to both the idea of issuing a HD variation simultaneously (testing the water on that?) and the appearance of this six-part anime with Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) mechanical and character designs. Interestingly, after a quick scan, the Press Release that has been issued makes no real mention of this - something I would have thought would be a major selling point. For me, if I remember the previews correctly, the animation's one of those that blends CGI with cell and it just doesn't work for me, that style. Going to go back at look at this again though, because with a pedigree like Otomo (who's detail is unsurpassed, for me) it has to be worth at least doing that...
