Phil Mucci's debut short film The Listening Dead has been racking up international awards at a ferocious pace and, having just seen the complete film, it's dead easy to understand why. Flat out gorgeous to look at the film combines a Poe-inspired narrative with a visual style rooted in the silent German films of the twenties and thirties with injections of the Universal monster aesthetic, stop motion animation and some more modern flourishes.
