The original (i.e., 104-minute) version of Kei Fujiwara's Id (Ido) is scheduled to be screened at the Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film (BIFFF) on April 11th and 12th. That version opened at Fujiwara's Strange Underground Cavern - Blue Miracle (Fushigi chitei kutsu - ao no kiseki) establishment in Tokyo on September 1, 2005. A 93-minute version of the movie was screened in competition at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival (Yûbari Kokusai Fantasutikku Eigasai) in Hokkaido, Japan on February 24th and 25th of last year. Media Blasters Inc. is scheduled to release the original version on DVD (TSDVD-0724; NTSC, region 1, Japanese w/ English subtitles) in the U.S. on June 12th; the DVD is available for pre-order from Twitch affiliate Amazon.com Inc.. Screen Entertainment Ltd. is scheduled to release the original version on DVD (TERRA 14; PAL, region 2, Japanese w/ English subtitles) in the U.K. on April 23rd.
The principal cast of Id is as follows: (Kei) Fujiwara, Kimihiko Hasegawa, Kenji Nasa, Baiken Jukkanji, Yoshiaki Maekawa, Yasuyuki Mineta, Shôzô Tôjima, Sayaka Kai, Yukari Endô, Hiroshi Kitano, Eiji Hayashi, Masamitsu Mizuguchi, Chatarô Takahashi, Norio Shindô, Juri Shiina, Masami Akimoto, Ryô Ôkubo, Sakae Yamazaki, Daisuke Miyaji, Masanobu Asakawa, Yûki Awano, Mito Awano, Kikuzô, Noriaki Kawasaki, and Yamato Yasumura.
Fujiwara was also the screenwriter, production designer, cinematographer, and editor of Id. She similarly was also the screenwriter, co-production designer, cinematographer, and lead actress of her 1996 movie Organ (Orugan).
Here's a description of Id from the BIFFF website: "A bloodthirsty killer roams the forest. The sound of water flowing deep beneath the earth, fills his mind. He hears an unknown voice, passing through the depths of his unconscious, his id, emanating from the murmuring of an underground stream. Captivated by this voice, the man descends and is swept away by raging river waters. He's rescued by the people of a small town steel mill. Soon, terrible incidents begin occurring at the mill. The factory manager is found beaten to death. The perpetrator is a female employee of the mill. It's her voice that has summoned the killer here. The combined hatred and sorrow of these two brings about the appearance of the foul smelling human-hog monster. At that moment, the detective who has been pursuing the man, arrives at the mill town as if summoned by fate. ¶ Kei Fujiwara does not only star in Id, she also serves as screenwriter, production designer, cinematographer and editor. Her second film is even more disturbing than her debut, Organ, from 1996. The instinctive drive and unconscious desire is the basis of what consists our self, our ego, our id. Fujiwara's cosmic view of these hidden desires, of life and death is sublime to the point of grotesque and is eccentrically and humorously depicted in the film. ¶ Kei Fujiwara (1957) is a Japanese actress, playwright, cinematographer, producer and film director. She starred in Shinya's Tsukamoto's Denchu Kozo and played the lead in Tetsuo: The Iron Man. She debuted as a director with the horror film Organ. Id is her second long feature."

I'm dying to see this film.
Don't hold your hopes up too high. There's a reason why it hasnt been screened anywhere yet. Its really bad.
What did you think of ORGAN? If you loved ORGAN and hated ID I'll consider myself warned. If you hated ORGAN as well I'll happily disregard your comment.
i would love to know what's happening with miike's 'bodyguard kiba 2', and 'kisarazu cats eyes' plus 'scrap heaven'. its one thing to suffer delays, as MB seems to have in terms of pressing DVDs in the last 6 to 12 months, but to announce and retract in a way potentially like paul spurriers 'P' is (for me) even more disconcerting. oh, and i am torn over 'organ', but still find enough interest in 'ID'.
I can't find any cut/uncut info about the UK release on the BBFC website so I assume the "18" logo on that cover isn't official yet.
Wonder if Terra will make a better effort than they did with their abysmal Haze DVD.
caterpillar - the BBFC often certify films right at the last minute, and lots of that depends on the company and their side of things - not just the BBFCs side of the deal. it's also possible for them to update their site after release, and for companies that are due to release a film to speculate (sometime you'll see a 'TBC' on a cert for an artwork) rather safely. this film is almost certainly likely to be an 18, i would guess!
Yeah, I'm sure it'll be "18", the question is, will it be cut or uncut?
there's no way of telling before hand, potentially not even if you've seen the film. this is partly why, given the nature of film with content that circles around the 18 certificate, that UK buyers tend to head towards foreign editions for the safest option - usually cheaper too - in order to avoid disappointment with an intimidating censorship system... and a small market base for such films around here too, so other reasons to be looking elsewhere also.
Been kinda interested in this for a while now...released on my birthday, so uncut format would be a nice pressie!
I've seen it yesterday on the BIFFF festival...and it's sh*t...granted, me and my buddies expected it, we all had I good laugh and a fun night out but I totally not recommend this movie... David Lynch also makes weirdo movies that nobody understands but in this movie basically everybody is just screaming of fear all the time mixed with B-movie special effects.
If you want to see a cult movie, go watch Tetsuo II: body hammer
And answer to previous discussion.. if this movie was cut, their wouldn't be anything left but the credit titles, I think :-)
Saw it at the BIFFF last week, must say there are some issues with this flick. I thought I had nodded of or gone on admiring the Nova's awesomeness for a microsecond too long. I felt like I was missing some important story connection. However, I wasn't alone and none of the people I spoke to later was able to tell me what went wrong. The film is a bit of a mess
