An English-subtitled version of the second teaser trailer for Katsuhide Motoki's Kitaro (Gegege no Kitarô) has been added to ShochikuFilms.com - the English-language website of Shochiku Co. Ltd. (Shôchiku K.K.). Shochiku is scheduled to release the movie theatrically in Japan on April 28th.
The screenplay for Kitaro was written by Daisuke Habara, based on the eponymous manga serial by Shigeru Mizuki. The movie stars (listed order corresponds to order on official website) Eiji Wentz (Uentsu Eiji), Mao Inoue, Rena Tanaka, Yô Ôizumi, Gô Rijû, Satoshi Hashimoto, You, Kanpei Hazama, and Shigeru Muroi.
Here's a description of Kitaro from ShochikuFilms.com: "A popular animation adapted into live-action for the first time, using cutting-edge CGI from studios around the world, including Centro Digital Pictures ('Kill Bill', 'Kung Fu Hustle'). Starring Eiji Wentz from the popular duo WaT. Kitaro is a half-human, half-yokai who was orphaned as a child. He is dedicated to keeping the peace between the human and yokai worlds. He finds out that a magical ball which controls all powers has been brought into the human world. He tries to save that world from falling into the wrong hands."

I guess to coincide with the movie, yet another variation of the "Ge Ge Ge No Kitaro" anime will be airing starting in April on the Fuji TV network. I still like the 80s anime series the best but am curious to see what this new series will be like.
Anyone been down to the Gegege no Kitaro "museum" down in Chofu, where manga artist Shigeru Mizuki now lives? Not much of a place in its own right, but the surrounding area is very nice, especially Yukari onsen. Can't remember the details exactly... But the original manga series is great - I am sure Shochiku will cock it up though.
The muppets and make up in Youkai Daisensou looked so much better than these totally unshaded computer effects.
Hoping this will be fun, but I was much more interested when Tsutsumi Yukihiko was attached...
Bring on a subtitled release of the classic anime series and spare me with this flick.
