Here is one that went under our radar until now. On the surface, this mystery-thriller looks to be France's answer to The Fugitive. The film is based on an American novel by Harlan Coben. Tell No One is directed by French actor Guillaume Canet, whom English speaking audiences may know from Danny Boyle's The Beach, but it is worth mentioning his fine performance in the underrated Jeux D'Enfants (and Canet also appeared in critical darlings Joyeux Noël and L'Enfer).
"Tell No One (Ne le dis à personne) is a densely-plotted adaptation of an American mystery novel by Harlan Coben that drags you back and forth between the violent events related to the presumed murder of a doctor's young wife and the emergence of evidence eight years later that the woman is still alive. Dense here may be an understatement..."
Yes, there is a nice pedigree on display here from Canadian beauty Marie-Josée Croze, to Kristin Scott Thomas to the legendary Jean Rochefort. Oh and did I mention it was produced by Luc Besson?
The film was released in France in late 2006 to a fair bit of popularity and awards did follow. Although no American distribution seems to be forthcoming, hopefully a DVD with English subtitles will be soon. Oh, yea - That slick one sheet really does a good job at teasing the film.
