Big news here coming via the folks at SciFi Japan ...
Famed Japanese production house Tsuburaya Productions - the creators of Ultraman among many others - announced some time back that they would be reviving many of their classic titles over the coming years. They've been true to their word with new editions of Mirror Man and Ultra Q already appearing. Coming in April will be a three part mini-series revival of Operation: Mystery, a show that ceased production thirty eight years ago and focused on a team that investigated mysteries triggered by a misuse of science.
Now, this would be worth mentioning purely on the grounds that it's a Tsuburaya revival, but it gets better. Of the three episodes one is directed by Ju-On director Takashi Shimizu and another by Ringu's Hideo Nakata. The episodes, each a stand-alone story, will air one a week for three consecutive weeks in Japan with the first airing April 2nd. Expect fan-subs to turn up online shortly thereafter.
All the details, included episode synopses, can be found here.
