Already Dead on the big screen.

(Posted In Cult Horror USA and Canada )

alreadydead.jpg A few weeks ago I reviewed a splendid little book called Bottomfeeder by Bob Fingerman. It was a fresh, for me at least, take on the vampire genre and a jab at the all the romantic Ann Rice-esque bloodsucker stories that have ruined the genre for me and I'm sure many others.
In the feedback section people talked about another great vampire novel, Already dead by Charlie Huston. It's a story about a P.I. that's happens to be a vampire and his search through the various hidden vampire clans in the city for a missing girl. I have not personally read this thing but people seem to like it very much, so maybe it's time to take a look at it.
Those same people might be glad to know that the story is slated for a big screen adaptation.
Variety reported yesterday that former New Line big shot Michael De Luca had bought the rights to it and has hired scripter Scott Rosenberg to adapt it. De Luca has done some great stuff in the past but looking over Rosenberg's resume is not as exciting. The man has written scripts for some god awful films, his two best being Things to do in Denver when you're dead and High Fidelity. But lets hope that this turns out good and that the fans of the book will be happy.
Incidentally Huston has released his second book in this proposed five book series called No Dominion.
Order Already Dead.
Order No Dominion.

The concept sounds VERY much like Marvel's Hannibal King charcter... the older one not the Ryan Reynolds version. Hopefully the treatment comes out good... I'd like to check this out & the book!

Please. No more vampires. Most boring monsters ever.

I'd certainly like to see an adaptation of Dennis Johnson's Already Dead.

oh my god, i hope they dont screw this up. theres enough meat in this book to make a very good film, but theres also enough camp and posturing to make it godawful.

and i want someoneto adapt charlie huston's "caught stealing" trilogy, so this better go the right way.
