I first caught the short film version of Shane Acker's 9 at the Worldwide Short Film Festival back in 2005 and was absolutely blown away by the man's work. The short is a CG animated film about some sort of sock puppet creature making his way through a hostile, post-apocalyptic landscape within which it is being hunted by mechanical beasts. It's an amazing piece of work and so expectations were running high when I heard that Acker was working on a feature version of the story over at Focus Features with Tim Burton and Night Watch director Timur Bekmambetov on board as producers. And now Cartoon Brew have got word of the voice cast ...
Any voices at all represent a major change from the original, but if you're going to go there, this is an impressive group to do it with: Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau, Elijah Wood and John C. Reilly. Nice.

hey guys was wondering what role polygram (formerly gramercy films) is playing with Shane Acker's animated film, "9." I thought it was being produced by Universal's Focus Films. Is Universal distributing it also?
Also, with Tim Burton on as a producer does he have any say in the direction or is it more of a honorary role.
Thnaks, Jay
