Spanish director Cesar Velasco Broca is a great favorite of ours around here, a purveyor of very odd science fiction short films and oddities. At the core of his work are a trilogy of sci-fi shorts shot in grainy black and white on a vintage 1940's era camera that play like a fusion of Ed Wood and Guy Maddin. They're very odd and - in my opinion - bloody fantastic. And apparently the people at Slamdance agree with me ... Avant Petalos Grillados, the final entry in Velasco Broca's trilogy was entered in this year's edition of the festival and has just taken home the award as Best Experimental Short. We're currently hosting two bits of the man's work here on Twitch - including one of the earlier entries in this series - and a trailer for the new one is now available from his own Batan Bruits website.
