R2 UK DVD Box Set for 'Stand Alone Complex : 2nd Gig' February 26th 2007.

solidstatesociety.jpegNot really that much you can say that easily steps beyond what's been said about 'Stand Alone Complex'. This second series has been issued in individual volumes here and the USA, and there's a sneeky box out in HK that also has English Subtitles - but, for cost and convenience, confidence in the subs that's naturally beyond what we potentially could get from HK, the UK or USA sets are preferential. This is the first then, with English Subtitles, of the 2nd Gig that I would happily plump for.

The show itself, as a brief recap, is perhaps the only example I've personally seen of anime that meets my initial teenage expectations from many years back. It's the post-Akira years of disappointments that eventually became a bore that turned me more towards live action movies out of Japan, and it's a series like 'Stand Alone Complex' that makes me think there could be much more out there that's an anime equivalent of the live action approaches I like - the stories here are tightly told, intelligent, original (to a greater or lesser extent that's opinion of course), interesting, good fun, educational, philosophical. It's animated really nicely for TV, with production values above what I would expect, and for me it's a classic.

That's all been said before, like I myself said up there a short while ago. What's still not the case is that many people that could absolutely love this show haven't necessarily had a taster of it. Now would be a good time. [Source : DVDActive].

The quality control on the first season box was abysmal, and I'm not exaggerating one bit. It had every possible flaw known to man ranging from pitched audio, blocky video to horrid subtitles.
Apparently this set should have quality far better than the first set and it's on my 'to buy' list. Darn cheap too!

According to the AnimeOnDVD reviews the 2nd GIG UK discs turned out pretty good.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for a release of the first season that is actually worth my money.

@Caterpillar
What's wrong with the RC1 season one set, except for the missing dts track?

I'm not generally as picky regarding anime dvds as I am for other films (try just to get the best deal on R1/R2 box sets compared to fishing around international sites for various versions). That said, I've never been particularly impressed by Manga releases (especially compared to Geneon or Bandai). At any rate, if the price point ends up like the first one (and the early date), I'll be picking it up as I've been waiting to see Season 2 for a long time.
