The official website for Rigoberto Castañeda's Mexican-Spanish horror Km. 31 (Kilómetro 31) is online, and on that site is a gallery of fifteen stills from the movie. Twitch - in association with GOMORRAHY.com - is still providing a downloadable version of the teaser trailer for the movie; there's a streaming version of it on the official website.
As was previously reported here and there on Twitch, the screenplay for Km. 31 was written by Castañeda. The movie stars Iliana Fox as Catalina/Ágata, Adrià Collado as Nuño, Raúl Méndez as Omar, Mikel Mateos as the 6-year-old boy, Carlos Aragón as Inspector Ugalde, Luisa Huertas as the old woman, and Fernando Becerril as Doctor Morales. It apparently co-stars Hanna Sirog, Julián Álvarez, Marcela Pezet, Claudette Maillé, Giselle Audirac, Camilo San Vicente, Everardo Arzate, Mónica Bejarano, Cheli Godínez, and Izmir Gallardo.
Here's a synopsis for Km. 31 from the website of production company/international sales agent Filmax International (Sociedad General de Derechos Audiovisuales S.A.): "After the tragic death of their mother when they were children, twin sisters Agata and Catalina Hameran developed a special skill, a way of communicating without speaking, a "link" between them. After a mysterious accident on Kilometer 31, Agata falls into a coma. Catalina, thanks to their "link", feels the pain and tragedy that her sister is going through at the time of the accident. Following a series of supernatural events, Catalina realizes that their "link" is stronger than ever and that her sister Agata is screaming for help from her unconscious state. ¶ Catalina is now determined to find out what really happened to her sister in order to help her wake up. Nuño, Agata's long time friend, and Omar, Catalina's boyfriend, agree to help her. But they soon find out that not only is Agata in a coma, but she is also trapped between reality and an ancient legend, the legend of La Llorona."
Km. 31 had its world première at the Morelia International Film Festival (Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia) on October 19th of last year. Videocine S.A. de C.V. is scheduled to release it theatrically in Mexico on February 2nd.
Those who are interested in Km. 31 may also wish to read the Twitch article on David Alcalde's Spanish-Mexican horror-thriller In the Playground, which is in pre-production. The screenplay for that movie was written by Alcalde and David Muñoz, based on the novel El juego de los niños by Juan José Plans. (Narciso Ibáñez Serrador's Island of the Damned (¿Quién puede matar a un niño?) - a.k.a. "Who Can Kill a Child?", "Would You Kill a Child?", etc. - was also based on that novel.)
