The official site for Katsuhiro Otomo's Bugmaster (aka Mushishi) has been updated with a second trailer. As mention before, its an adaptation of a sci-fi manga series by Yuki Urushibara. The cast include Joe Odagiri (Bright Future, Shinobi), Makiko Esumi (Maborosi, Pistol Opera), Nao Omori, Yu Aoi and Reisen Lee.
Toshiba entertainment plans to release the film theatrically in Japan during March 2007.

Todd's Bugmaster Review
pretty much everybody who saw it called it an absolute desaster of a movie.
it's a shame, because I really liked the anime...
"pretty much everybody who saw it called it an absolute desaster of a movie."
I've read a number of different reviews of the film from a variety of sources over the past several weeks, and only one of them (Todd's review here at Twitch) has been negative. So where is this "pretty much everybody" who thinks it's an "absolute disaster"?
Just curious.

I'm still gonna give this a shot no matter who says its bad.
damn, this looks alot better than the picture stills. looks amazing...besides the white hair, lol.
I think we can all agree that this looks inferior to the anime (and the manga). Judging by the trailer, it looks like an unnecessary special effects action flick, very much like Shinobi. I see none of the enchanting beauty that was in the anime, in those scenes in the trailer.
I really hate this trend of turning succesful anime/manga properties into half-assed live-action flicks. The only one somewhat succeeding thus far has been Nana, although it's sequel looks to be crap. These other attempts like Shinobi, Honey & Clover, Death note and Mushishi all seem (or are) poorly executed, and rather made to milk the fans.
If they must make a live action adaptation, I'd much rather see a series than a movie - it's just absurd to try an pack a fairly long series into two hours. Much of the magic in titles like H&C come from those small, slow moments and, unfortunately, those are the ones that get to go first when condensing it to movie-size.
You can all yap yap yap, this movie is a huge hunk of shit and if you need to see it to believe why are you even reading reviews?
This was a wasted ticket at the TIFF and I will forgive no one. This movie is HORRIBLE.
