Forum member Junky pointed out that Mike Mendez's latest film Gravedancers is out on DVD in Holland. It's a 2 disc special edition that comes in a nice looking tin and has a bunch of nice extras. Unfortunately a commentary is absent from this release but it might be on the US released disc that Lions Gate is putting out next March. I've been a fan of Mendez's films after I saw the Convent, very fun horror flick he did a few years ago about possesed nuns and Coolio. His high octane directorial style reminds me of early Sam Raimi and his films bare an obvious resemblance, but in a good way. Gravedancers is his biggest film to date, budget-vise, and revolves around three people who have to deal with some nasty spooks after they unwittingly raise the dead honouring their fallen friend. It's gotten some promising reviews and seems like a fun filled ghost fest all around, the trailer at least looks like it. It stars Dominic Purcell's neck, Buffy's Clare Kramer and French character actor Tchéky Karyo.
You can get the Dutch DVD over at DiabolikDVD.com (only 4 left in stock though) but you can get it elsewhere, like Xploitedcinema.com if Diabolik runs out. I got my order on the way.
Edit. It seems like Diabolik are out of stock at the moment but you can get it over at xploitedcinema. Click below.
UK residents might want to note that UK customs have Xploited on a black list and frequently open and seize content from their packaging. Just so you know.

I caught this during the "Horrorfest" exhibition in the US recently and enjoyed it. It's unabashedly goofy, but plenty bloody and good time. The audience ate it up. This set intrigues, but I'll probably hold out for the US release and compare. Maybe a review when yours comes in, Swarez??? :)
Well you never know.
Despite being a 2 disc set there isn't even a single extra to be found on this release! The first disc simply presents the film in pan & scan fullscreen while the second disc has the widescreen version. That's all there is. If you want extras wait for the US disc.
From the description of the Xploitedcinema site disc one features the film in anamorphic widescreen and the second discs has documentaries about Poltergeists and other strange phenomena. Do you have this disc Caterpillar?
Got a follow-up from Mendez himself on this; apparently the Lionsgate release has a lot of good stuff that might show up on it;

Yeah, there is some absolutely random documentary material about poltergeists and spontaneous combustion. What I meant is that there are no real extras for the movie itself. No commentary, no interviews, no making of. Nothing of that sort.
Yay! Dread central quoted my article.
But it looks like I jumped the gun on ordering the Dutch release. Oh well, it's not like I don't own 4 releases of Battle Royale or nothin.
Yeah I worked on this movie down in North Carolina, Greensboro. I saw it in Horror fest and was very dissappointed with it's out come thets shots that are out of focus at times and just plot in general and acting. either case it was C rate film, So don't get your hopes us on this one.
Always interested in new horror - will look out for this one, but go for the R1 I think..
