Tan Tolga Demirci's GOMEDA

(Posted In Asia Continental Europe and Russia Film News Horror Thriller )

gomeda.jpgThe official website for Tan Tolga Demirci's Gomeda is online, although at present it's just a starter page.

The screenplay for Gomeda was written by Demirci. The movie stars Feride Çetin, Bahar Yanilmaz, Bulut Köpük, Halim Ercan, and Serkan Altunorak (note: all names are written in ISO 8859-1 (Latin 1)).

Here's a synopsis for Gomeda from the production: "Five friends in their twenties - three female and two male - take a road trip to visit the caves in the Gomeda Valley. Little do they know that these caves are still haunted by memories of torture that took place there in the past. As they get closer, one by one their dreams turn into nightmares, their nightmares turn into hallucinations, and their hallucinations turn into reality, until the line between real and surreal exists no more. The valley begins to resemble a mother's womb, and the caves begin to resemble the umbilical cord between a mother and her unborn child. The memories of torture give way to the ever-haunting presence of guilt and regret that could only be felt by a mother."

The synopsis I read in a Turkish film magazine reminded me of this year's poorly reviewed "Araf" due to its latent misogyny and conservative theme. The lead character of Araf was punished for having premarital sex and abortion. In "Gomeda", the caves in the historic valley still carry the traces of tortured women who have been punished for their 'indecency' and three young women who take the road trip to the valley with their boyfriends take on the same curse.

A part of the synopsis goes: "The valley begins to resemble a mother's womb, and the caves begin to resemble the umbilical cord between a mother and her unborn child." I believe these resemblances were already perfectly underlined in Ursula K. Le Guin's novel "Tombs of Atuan" and also last year's breakthrough horror masterpiece "The Descent", without having a need to punish their characters for premarital sex and abortion. I hope Gomeda has something different to say in the store, something more worthwile.

I loved this film. One of the best Turkish films I have seen in years. The cinematography and music was amazing. The story and the imagery was groundbreaking. This is a new dawn for Turkish cinema!

I don't know that why Turkish movie industry making so bullshit movie. The last example is this movie that called 'Gomeda'.Is it horror,or is it fantastic movie? I never understand. The script is so simple like student school project. You can never scary or something etc....There is no surprise in the end of the movie, the tragedy of the death in this movie is really boring, the setting places are too narrow, the conversations are too stiff, and many more. Director,'Tan tolga demirci'; you need to be more creative to find fresh ideas for movie making. Trust me,You are very weak and bad director. You need to more learning about movie directing. I'm sorry to give rating 1/10 for this one!Because 'Gomeda' is, really so so bad movie.

One of the best movies from recent Turkish cinema. The movie is a pioneer for the surreal movement and I believe it will be very well appreciated in the fantastic movie festivals all around the world. Takes you to a journey of imagination enhanced with symbolic meanings. The cinematography and the music was absolutely marvellous. Very well done and congrats. to director, Tan Tolga Demirci.

This movie is awful. How can people say it's horror movie I can't
believe.Because I've never laughed so much at something that isn't even
trying to be remotely comedic.

The imaginations and sybmolic meanings are very funny. This point is
very important.Director of Gomeda said it is a surrealistic movie but I
think we should say it is 'funny surrealistic' movie.Because there is
no creative script,directing and others..........

Of course,Director is so weak, plot is look like bullshit Turkish TV
dramas, dialogs are very disgusting.I don't want to write long comments
but just say Gomeda is not a horror, its horrible!!

Anyway don't waste your time with this!
