Been anticipating the release of this film, which was to have been in the cinemas this week. Unfortunately, Exiled has been confirmed as banned, with excessive violence cited as the reason.
Both Election and Election 2 were passed for general release, although the version of Election we got was the China one with the "crime does not pay" ending.
Although in the past year, the censors have been a little more relaxed about these things, it appears that Exiled left the censors displeased enough to have it completely banned.
Just adding fuel to the Johnnie To fire. Shame.
Odd... I thought the Election films were way bloodier and more violent than Exiled. Of course, that might be due to the fact that the Election films are so unremittingly nihilistic.
Exiled is just too damned fun and does not take itself seriously enough to be banned.
Oh Well, they banned "Dead/Alive (aka Braindead" back in the day, as well...Just no pleasing some folks.
Why worry? You can still watch it on pirated dvd! Viva piracy.

that's why we've kinda stopped trying to second guess the Malaysian censors.
It's getting a release down here in Sydney through the Reading Cinema in Chinatown in the next week or so. I'd almost bet the Australian OFLC don't even get to see it before it screens, for Chinatown is rife with unclassified DVDs & such small screen avenues might not even matter to them.
