The official site for Katsuhiro Otomo's Bugmaster (aka Mushishi) has been updated with a trailer. Based on a sci-fi manga series by Yuki Urushibara, the story centers on a lone wanderer who has the ability to detect a mysterious life forms invisible to the normal human eye called Mushi and assist people with illness infected by it. The cast include Joe Odagiri (Bright Future, Shinobi), Makiko Esumi (Maborosi, Pistol Opera), Nao Omori, Yu Aoi and Reisen Lee.
Toshiba entertainment plans to release the film theatrically in Japan some time next year.

Judging by that trailer, comments and reviews, this isn't very good. A shame, as the anime series was excellent; probably one out of five or so good series this year. Then again, I wasn't really expecting that they could translate the mood to a live action movie.
It's just annoying that these cheap live action versions make the original material (manga in this case but could apply to the anime series as well) seem bad. The same thing seems to be happening to Honey & Clover with a seriously inferior live action movie (which, by the way, will have an english subtitled dvd release in Japan).
I suggest people to take a look at the R1 Mushishi DVDs as they are released by Funimation next year, the series was very good for something that didn't have an arc whatsoever. I just hope Funimation doesn't screw up the release, and hopefully they will include some good cover art and extras to make it worth getting.
Oh Lord. This is one anime that should never have been made into a movie. Because the characters and the stories are so..well, weird, it's difficult to translate that into live-action. Just watching the trailer made me shudder because of the horrible make-up and cheap special effects.
