Distribution rights for Kenta Fukasaku's Yo-Yo Girl Cop (Sukeban Deka: kôdo nêmu = Asamiya Saki - or "Sukeban Deka: code name = Asamiya Saki", if you prefer back-transliterations) are to be offered for sale by Toei Company Ltd. (Tôei K.K.) at this year's American Film Market (AFM) in Santa Monica, California. The movie is scheduled to be screened at the AMC #6 on Friday November 3rd at 3:00 p.m., and at the AMC #7 on Monday November 6th at 1:00 p.m.. It's also scheduled to be screened at the Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival (LVHIFF) in Honolulu on October 22nd. Toei Company Ltd. (Tôei K.K.) released it theatrically in Japan on September 30th.

The screenplay for Yo-Yo Girl Cop was written by Shôichi Maruyama, based on the manga series Sukeban Deka by Shinji Wada. The movie stars Aya Matsuura as Saki Asamiya IV, a.k.a. Sukeban Deka IV. It co-stars Rika Ishikawa, Erika Miyoshi, Yui Okada, Yuki Saitô, Hiroyuki Nagato, Shunsuke Kubozuka (Kuboduka Shunsuke), and Riki Takeuchi.

Here's a synopsis for Yo-Yo Girl Cop from the LVHIFF website: "An undercover police detective embedded in a private school is blown to pieces in Shibuya. The detective had been investigating a popular underground website called Enola Gay, an anonymous blog with an ominous counter, ticking down toward an unknown event. Cue in a young girl from New York's mean streets who is arrested and transferred to Japan, at the behest of the Tokyo Police Force. Only a hardened girl with killer instincts can infiltrate this vile plot. Assigned the codename Asamiya Saki, she's put in a schoolgirl uniform and given her secret weapon - a yo-yo of insurmountable power! ¶ Based on the manga, YO YO GIRL COP spawned the trend for schoolgirl detectives using an everyday device as a weapon or investigative tool (CELLPHONE GIRL COP is a popular TV series). Starring J-idol Aya Matsuura and featuring a few Morning Musume as the baddies - it's an otaku fever dream on the big screen!"

saw this the other day.
it was a enjoyable little movie.
it needed more yo-yo action but the ending fight was pretty cool.
hope this movie does well enough so that they can make more of them.

A sequel looks unlikely unless the DVD sells well, as was the case with Azumi. It's done rather underwhelmingly at the box office, and has already disappeared from a lot of multiplexes.
