The Messengers is the Pang Brothers North American debut feature being made under Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures Label (a label which been underwhelming to say the least thus far). The sunflower images are lovely, but many elements in the trailer seem, well, overly familiar. We will rue the day that cellular phone coverage is universal across the planet, so movies will have to come up with another excuse to remove the peksy little devices from the story.
Knowing the brothers problems with fashioning a tight and coherent narrative (even in their native language) I am apprehensive, especially in light reshoots done out of their hands (previously on Twitch) Their best known feature being The Eye (Gin gwai, 2002), tends to generate split reactions from fans of genre. Several sequences (one in a class-room, one in an elevator) in that film are excellent and effective. This gives me some hope that the trailer is underselling the film and this isn't going to be The Grudge 3.
The Messengers opens in North America February 2, 2007.

Note: In one of the silliest gimmicks, the trailer is only available for viewing between 10pm and 5am. This is stupid beyond words, but fortunately if you change your operating systems clock to fall in that timeframe before visiting the site, you can then pick your format. (Thanks Richard)

Well, it does look better than THE GRUDGE 2.
The last scene in the trailer: oh my god.
Not sure if it's common knowledge, but Eduardo Rodriguez was brought in to reshoot a significant chunk of this movie. Rodriguez (a Robert Rodriguez protege) directed Curandero, yet another genre movie getting the shaft by the Weinsteins. It remains to be seen just how much of this movie will be Pangs or Rodriguez, but apparently it's a mess.
