The 'Oh Dear' Files: Casting and plot details for 'AVP2: Survival of the Fittest'

(Posted In Action Cult Random Geek Talk Rumors Sci-Fi / Fantasy USA and Canada )

avp.jpgThe only consolation I had when I left the theatre after experiencing AVP was that I didn't have to pay for it because I got a free movie voucher when I bought the Predator CE DVD release. Now it looks like I am going to have to find another voucher or another sode dispenser nozzle in my Coke the next time I am in the theatre if there are any hopes of getting my butt in a seat for this one.

Empire reports that John Ortiz [Miami Vice] has joined the cast of AVP2: Survival of the Fittest, alongside Shareeka Epps [Half Nelson] and Johnny Lewis [The OC].

The new movie will be set in a picturesque American small town, which suddenly becomes a war zone when a pissed off Predator and a mob of deadly aliens arrives. Epps is playing Kendra, a young girl who has to look out for her younger sibling. Ortiz is the town’s sheriff and Lewis is a troubled kid who will likely find a reason to behave once the extra-terrestrial rabble-rousers show up.

Just one Predator? Just one? Sure he's pissed off but aren't they all? Does this imply that there are homemaker Predators waiting at home at the end of a long day with a roast beef in the oven completely content with their lives? Jeez Louise, I think we deserve more than this.

Commercial and Music Video directors the Brothers Strause will direct. This will be their first feature film. Never fear though, that's exactly how Michael Bay got his start... ... crap.

Ugh. Yeah, I read a detailed script review for this disaster in the making on AICN before FOX C&D'd them into removing it. There is a big action scene taking place with the Aliens and Predator smashing through a SUPER K-MART. Yes, a SUPER K-MART. This will be EPIC!

Sigh. As much as I enjoy Paul Thomas Anderson's films I was deeply disappointed with AVP (I still bought it though). This sound really, really bad and completely fucks up the mythology of both of the franchises. Not that I'm really concerned about that (I just want a kick ass film that's both scary and exciting) but when they claim that they are staying true to them it just sucks so bad.
Oh well.

Hate to break it to you but AvsP wasn't directed by the great Paul Thomas Anderson. Instead it was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. I'm sure you were shocked that he went from HARD EIGHT, BOOGIE NIGHTS and MAGNOLIA to a crappy franchise flick.

Yea I always get those two names mixed up.

Major faux-pas Swarez. If I may reprimand you in the way we do with my student ministry kids... I'm not so much angry as I am disappointed. Shocking really, a man of your calibre. Sit in the corner for five minutes and think about what you have done young man!!!

Yeah Swarez, you freaked me out there for a second. I saw AvP and when you said that, I thought, "Really!? What happened!?"

Anyway, it's to bad Epps' career is going in this direction after the magnificense that was Half Nelson. I hope she rebounds and does something good again (although I shouldn't jusge not having seen AvP 2 yet obviously).

ramble on...

I meant to say "too" bad. Gotta be grammatically correct.
Sorry.

I'm sorry guys, I was tired when I wrote this.
But....I've actually seen more Paul W.S. Anderson films than I have Paul Thomas Anderson flicks.
Do I go in the corner now?

The directors certainly do have some stlyish works to their credits though...

Even if it looks good it'll still be Aliens and a Predator smashing through a SUPER K-MART. The problem here is the script, not the directors as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know...haven't you ever wanted to see a Super K-Mart smashed?

:)

» Posted by CTDeLude at October 6, 2006 01:29 PM

No, no, no...let 'em smash up a Wal-Mart. At least that would be more of a political statement. The biggest baddest alien nasties in the world vs. the biggest baddest retailer in the world. "Super K-Mart?" That's like second tier dudes. But then again this whole film is gonna be second tier...so I'll shut up now!
