Cult favorite director Richard Stanley - of Dust Devil and Hardware fame - has finally got himself something new about to hit screens. About to debut at Sitges Sea of Perdition is a new experimental short film helmed by Stanley as part of the IBM 1401 - A Users Manual project, a sequence of five short films based on the 5th act of the new album by Icelandic composer Johann Johannsson. All five shorts were shot in Iceland over three days, all based on the same piece of music, and beyond directing his own sci-fi piece Stanley also stars in one of the others, Corentin Lecourt's The Magician.

After getting the 5-disk Dust Devil box-set and seeing his stunning slightly-experimental, highly unconventional documentaries on Voodoo in Haiti, Afghanistan and the Nazis and the Holy Grail, I am just really excited to hear that Richard Stanley is still getting some of his projects realised, and I so much look forward to anything the man does. I know I am not the only person who gets excited about his work. This guy is unique!
Just wanted to mention, in case no one had scrolled down and noticed, that Richard Stanley, along with Hisayasu Sato, John 'Ginger Snaps' Fawcett, Nigerian producer/screenwriter/actress Helen Ukpabio and writer Kim Newman will all be present at Compass of Horror in Bristol. So here's the chance to probe him to see what he'll next come up with!
What the hell? I had no idea this was shot over here. Must have been low profile. Especially since my friend's mom is starring in one of the stories.
i don't know much about any of these directors, but i would just like to say that johann johannsson's music is amazing. It is experimental electronic with classical sensibilities. he releases under a label called Touch which also releases albums by fennesz, biosphere and other like minded artists. From what i've heard of this ibm album, it could be his best work to date. i urge anyone reading this to check out his music.
