I'm not entirely sure how to describe the upcoming Compass of Horror event in Bristol. Falling somewhere in between a festival and an educational event it's a pretty unique undertaking, a deliberate attempt to both analyze different cultural approaches to horror while introducing people to some new experiences all while watching some damn fine film. Built around the points of the compass the event hits points North (Dust Devil, UK), West (Ginger Snaps, Canada), East (Rampo Noir, Japan), and most intriguingly South (End of The Wicked, Nigeria). Though scarcely anyone outside of the country's borders seems to be aware of it Nigeria has developed a massive home grown film and video market known as Nollywood over recent years, an industry that produces several hundred titles a year, and this is a rare opportunity to see a key title on western shores.
