If you're in New York there is absolutely no excuse to miss this. The Pioneer Theater in New York has announced its October lineup and, not surprisingly, it's entirely populated with horror titles. There's a relatively lengthy run for Frankenstein's Bloody Nightmare - which I raved about here - the Doug Jones starring "remix" of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, S&MAN director J.T. Petty's Soft For Digging and a stack of others.
The highlight, however? Without doubt a screening of classic cult film Squirm with director Jeff Lieberman in attendance. I don't remember how old I would have been at the time but I very clearly remember sneaking out of bed one night to catch a late night airing of this on CityTV with the volume turned down low so as not to alert my parents. Yeah, the electrocuted worms gone bad premise is sublimely silly but there are a few scenes - primarily when the worms start oozing out of the showerhead - that have stuck with me for years. An enormously underappreciated cult title here ...
