The Dog Is Coming. Glory, Hallelujah, The Dog Is Coming.

(Posted In Asia DVD News Sci-Fi / Fantasy )

citizendogstill.jpgOh, this just made my day and very likely my week.

Logboy just dropped a note steering me here. What is there, you ask? A search engine that lets you search all international films licensed for release on DVD in Hong Kong within the last ninety days. I've just begun searching, but right up near the top is Wisit Sasanatieng's Citizen Dog. And yes, English subtitles are specifically included in the license. Glory, hallelujah. Hopefully whoever bought the Dog will also pick up rights to Tears of the Black Tiger and get that bad boy back into print somewhere ...

My review here.
Trailer and clip links here.

[Additional titles licensed: Cory Yuen's Dead or Alive, Death Note, Dorm, Fatal Contact, Memories of Matsuko, Silk, Sinking of Japan, Gedo Senki (oh look, there go all of Disney's revenues), The Banquet, The Host, Time, Yamato plus many many more.]

Good news indeed!! I'll always be fond of "Citizen Dog" as I feel it's the film that led me to this team.

Yay! I can give my home made subtitle DVD away finally.

Oi! I've always regretted missing the english subbed Citizen Dog at 2005s TIFF. I'll be glad to finally catch up with this film and stop compensating by watching Tears of the Black Tiger again and again (well, wait, I probably won't stop..)

Looks like the coming months are going to be expensive.

I strongly urge lovers of big epic melodrama (From Guy Maddin to SPL to House of Flying Daggers) to pick Xiogang's THE BANQUET - tout de suite!

Citizen Dog's release is a beautiful news but so it is also for Memories of Matsuko!

Aren't there licensing issues preventing Tales of Earthsea from coming out in the U.S. until 2009 at earliest? I doubt Disney ever had much hope for that one in the first place.

And the first news of "The Host" on DVD!

Thanks Todd, great link.
Just bought the HK-version of "Strings". Best version available, correct aspect ratio, best sound by far (DTS-ES 6.1), for less than 10 USD. The only thing lacking was the original Danish soundtrack, but all other non-Danish DVD's were missing that as well.

So now i even buy Western European films from Hong-Kong. What a strange world...

i dont think its specifically a link to licensing on DVD, its more about the confirmation of licenses for HK which should lead to DVD releases - thats more important for things like 'memories of matsuko', which had no subtitles for japan and hasnt gained any obvious interest for a DVD release in the USA that we know of (and hey, loved 'kamikaze girls'), than it is for things like 'the host' which will probably be presented best and first in korea anyway.

Logboy, when I use this link's search engine, I end up finding only the films running times, director and release date along with its parental rating. What sub-link beyond the film search should I use to facilitate the dvd licensing?

Any more word on this? I am dying to see this movie, but I guess if that were really the case I would be dead....
