[K-Film News] Korea’s submission for Oscar: King and the Clown (왕의 남자)

I am an audience from China. In June, I watched in Singapore and was moved by it.

This is the first time a movie touched me so deeply. A lot of other audiences in China are the same as me.

I've read some articles which are not optimistic on this movie winning an Oscar. One thing I worry about is that western audiences couldn't understand this movie precisely.

Before it broke the box office and became popular in Asia, its biggest ambition should be "being able to be watched by some audiences inside Korea".

Anyway, I don't know what happend, it accessed me and caught me eventually.

Maybe it is because its legend way to the world, I feel the movie very pure! It's the piece of truly Asian works without redundant factors we speculate the western market should like to see...

Oscar is a dream for Asian filmmakers, but for me, I truly hope it could be the most important window for the efficient communion betweem the west and the east.

I've watched this film already and I love it. It's kinda gay but that made it very interesting and special. It really moved me. The story's great and Lee Jun Ki was awesome. He was so pretty. Hah! Whether or not this film will impress the western people, it still is an excellent work. I really hope this film would win the Oscars though my country has an entry too. May the best foreign film win :) Go Asians. Cheers.

I don't know if any previous post from me has surfaced. Just want to say that this film 'King and Clown' will surely be understood and appreciated by any European and UK audience. I thought it a wonderful story and beautifully presented. Everything about it was done exquisitely. And then the actors..!!! All truly well rounded characters with deep feeling. Not sure about US audience. They will dwell too much on the homosexual aspect even tho delicately presented. It is the genuine love and friendship between the two street performers which is the core of this film.
