Ultraman Volume Two Hits Shelves November 7th

(Posted In Action Asia DVD News Sci-Fi / Fantasy )

Ultraman Volume 2 artsmall.jpgBCI released the first twenty episodes of the original Ultraman TV series, complete and uncut, back in July and they've finally put a date on when the remaining 19 episodes will be available: November 7th. The specs on this box appear to be virtually identical to the Volume One set, three discs in slimline cases, episodes restored and remastered and both original Japanese audio and the English dubs included.

Restored and remastered, eh? The quality of the first set sucked ass. Video was VCD standard at best. Sure, they are finally subtitled and that's the main reason to buy them but it beats me why they didn't spread the series over a few more discs at a slightly higher price. I'm sure the fans would be willing to pay a little extra for actually watchable video quality.

Oh, come off it. If that's VCD quality then you must live in some magical world where VCDs are a shitload better than they are here where the rest of us live.

They had to master the discs off broadcast sources because the show's creator refuses to acknowledge that he doesn't own it anymore despite court rulings against him and wouldn't surrender the negatives DESPITE BCI offering to give him points on the release out of their cut (and how unreasonable is that?) but the video's clean, it's clear, there are no obvious artifacts or digital distortion and it looks a whole lot better than it would have on television back in the day.

It's a low budget show from the sixties, man, it's a miracle that it looks as good as it does. Until somebody uses force to get the negatives back these shows will never look better than they do here.

Yea I wished my VCDs looked like that, then I wouldn't need DVD. They looked great, much better than the new Godzilla disc by the way. It would have been nice to get them all at once but that's DVD marketing man.
