First Seven Titles Announced For Toronto After Dark!

(Posted In Toronto After Dark )

TADlogo.jpgOkay kids, I know what you're doing, sitting at home in front of your computers obsessively checking and re-checking the Toronto After Dark Film Festival website, screaming out in your frustration, "When, oh when, will they tell me what films are coming! Put me out of my misery, you sadistic bastards!"

Well, the wait is over, at least for half of the lineup. The official press release has yet to appear but the website has been updated with the first seven titles confirmed for the inaugural Toronto After Dark and, since I have to go out in a minute and can't wait for the press release any more, I figure this makes them fair game to discuss publicly. We're rather fond of them all.

They are:

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (TAD page, Twitch article)
Shinobi (TAD page, Twitch review)
Mad Cowgirl (TAD Page, Twitch article)
Re-Cycle (TAD page, Twitch article)
Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell (TAD page, Twitch article)
SL8N8 (TAD Page, Twitch article)
Night of the Living Dorks (TAD page, Twitch article)

Festival passes are now available here!

Wow, you actually get Re-cycle. :(

We were meant to get it, but it turned up with no subtitles, so we ended up watching Ghost of Mae Nak.

Thanks Frightfest. :(

Any of these films good?

No, KC. We intentionally programmed shit.

Why would you do that, Todd? I was planning on stopping by, but if it's no good I'll pass. :(

Put it down to my capricious nature. Heh.

Of these ones, Behind the Mask (which won awards at Fantasia) is one of the smartest films I've seen in ages and a kick ass slasher flick to boot. Shinobi is just plain fun and gorgeous to look at, my review is gushingly positive. Mad Cowgirl is just plain bizarre, has Walter Koenig as a lusty televangelist and is the highest audience rated film ever at the SF Indie fest. Re-Cycle did Cannes andis just plain stunning to look at. Beach Party is
a major cult event just waiting to happen. SL8N8 is an old school slasher flick. Dorks is basically Revenge of the Nerds with zombies.

This batch is more horror oriented than the next announcement will be because we wanted a bunch of horror titles to promote at the Festival of Fear this weekend, but yeah, I really like the whole lineup.

Dont have a piss attitude, Todd.

What, I can't have a bit of fun? What kind of answer do you expect if you ask a programmer if the films he chose are any good? Of course I think they're good, otherwise I wouldn't have chosen them ...

We're pretty buzzed about the line-up. So tell your friends. Oh and we're saving one or two 'special' announcements for our second batch... coming September 29!

Well of the couple i've seen, I would say Behind The Mask is much better than it deserves to be..both smart and very funny - and Night Of The Living Dorks is energetic enough to be entertaining.

I'll have to check out the others.. My Re-cycle has turned up on the DVD, but I really wanted to see it on the big screen..ah well..
