This Is Why I Don't Carry A Cellphone.

(Posted In Action Asia Comedy Film News Martial Arts Sci-Fi / Fantasy Trailer Alert )

genyuden.jpgDon't you just hate it when you punch a wrong number into your cell phone and it magically transports you back to a battle in feudal times complete with hopping vampires and battling wizards? What can a girl do? Besides teach the locals to dance, I mean ...

Heh. It looks as though Kadokawa is looking to single handedly revive the old school martial arts fantasy, what with Masters of Thunder on the way and now also Gen'yû-den or Tripping. I know literally nothing about this beyond the title, studio and what you can see in the trailer, but if they're looking to re-create the feel of 80's era Hong Kong martial arts / fantasy / comedy flicks, they're not too far off ...

seems like a Taiwanese-Japanese collaboration, the 'ancient' part is not feudal Japan, it looks more like some fantasy ancient Chinese. The lead actress was heard speaking both Japanese and Mandarin (she played 2 roles). The lead actor is some Taiwanese idol, also co-starring Sammo Hung's son. Looks dated and silly.

If it came across my desk, I'd watch it. It's seems silly enough to be worth that. Would I seek it out? Probably not.

That looks quite entertaining. And the title has been permanently drilled into my brain.

okay, trying to find some small details to bump this one up...

Japanese title : 幻遊伝
Translates to : Genyuden (Tripping), or on IMDB as 'Shen you qing ren'
IMDB : http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0828115/
Directed by : Yiwen Chen
Japanese / Taiwanese Co-Production, stars include Ren Osugi and Rena Tenaka.
Duration : 102 minutes,
Official Website : http://www.kadokawa-herald.co.jp/official/genyuden/
Genres : Action / Fantasy / Romance.

Seems to feature the idea of Taiwanese living in Japan, the daughter having to return home for some reason... then the timeslip element comes in it seems... think this one has potential - looks very weird and the kind of thing people will react to quite well.
