Nana 2 casting news - production begins in September

(Posted In Asia Comedy Drama Film News )

Nana-Manga-Cover.jpgWe know that there are some fans of the manga Nana out there due to the response of our review not too long ago of the R3 HK disc. So, I thought you would all be pleased to know that production of a second film will soon be underway, but with some different faces in front of the camera.

Of the two main characters only one of the girls will be returning to fuflill their roles. Nakashima Mika will return to play her role of NANA, the musician. Though she could still benefit from eating a sandwich. Miyazaki Aoi will not be returning due to scheduling conflicts and an indication that she felt that the role of the sugary sweet Nana was no longer complimentary to her aspirations as an actress. She will be replaced by Ichikawa Yui who appears to fulfill the sugary sweet expectations just fine. Gone also will be the prettiest man in Japan, Ryuhei Matsuda. The role of NANA's man will now be played by Kyo Nobuo. Let's hope that none of these changes effect the chemistry the first film had.

Word is the sequel will wrap up the story, with Nana's band "Black Stones" making their debut and Hachi becoming pregnant. Filming begins in mid-September, with some location shooting to take place in London. Distributor Toho will release "Nana 2" on December 9th. So while there were questions about how long a series of films could be with the length of the manga series it would appear there will only be two films.

Even tho the movie was more for the female audience, I still think it had a great atmosphere. Changing a cast in a sequel is a dangerous thing to do tho.
