Hideo Nakata's latest movie is Kaidan. Principal photography for it began on June 28th.
The screenplay for Kaidan was written by Satoko Okudera, based on the kaidan-banashi "Shinkei Kasane-ga-fuchi" by Enchô San'yûtei. (Note that Masaki Kobayashi's Kwaidan (Kaidan) was based on stories from books by Lafcadio Hearn (a.k.a. Yakumo Koizumi).) The movie stars Kikunosuke Onoe V and Hitomi Kuroki.

I thought he doesn't like the horror genre? He said as much after the RING films. Then he made DARK WATER and now this. Either he was lying, changed his mind or has been trapped in the genre that he's been most successful (financially speaking, not quality-wise) in.
its nice to see that he is back on the japanese stage after the mediocre the ring 2 remake (if we can tell that a remake lol) anyway. what, another kaidan movie? probably the xxxxth in japanese history. hope it is not a kind of remake of the classical kaidan 1964 by Masaki Kobayashi. Hideo is really good to make horror movies and I hope it will not be his last.

To quote from the article above, "the screenplay for Kaidan was written by Satoko Okudera, based on the kaidan-banashi 'Shinkei Kasane-ga-fuchi' by Enchô San'yûtei. (Note that Masaki Kobayashi's Kwaidan (Kaidan) was based on stories from books by Lafcadio Hearn (a.k.a. Yakumo Koizumi).)"
