First Images From Devil May Cry: Sins Remembered!

(Posted In Action Film News Martial Arts Sci-Fi / Fantasy Trailer Alert USA and Canada )

dantesmall.jpgWe first mentioned an upcoming, live action Devil May Cry short film back in April and director R.L. Scott has just dropped a line to let us know that they are in the final stages of post production and that a website and trailer for the film will be online soon. To tide fans over for the trailer he also passed along a quintet of still shots from the film. Check 'em out.

*** UPDATE ***

Apparently three of these shots were lifted from scenes with unfinished CGI elements, thus leaving the stills looking a little more sparse here than they will in the finished picture. I have removed them at the director's request. Expect to see a trailer soon.

Hm... Not really what I was expecting, having played the games and all.... I'll wait for the trailer, but those stills are largely unexciting.

unless someone starts doing backflips and mid-air cartwheels, i refuse to acknowledge this film as Devil May Cry.

more like Some Dude May Be Emo.

also, it needs more CG hellhounds

» Posted by khy at August 5, 2006 01:37 AM

I've read a little about this before, it's said to have a considerable amount of action and cg effects in it... I'll wait for the trailer to see what it's all about.

» Posted by strider at August 5, 2006 07:07 AM

I agree...how the hell is this even DEVIL MAY CRY? Ooh, that one guys has white hair! Where are the gothic castles? The outlandish wardrobes? The freakish hellbeasts?! DMC is not something you can do on a low budget. Pass.

» Posted by DarkmanPoe at August 5, 2006 10:29 AM

I'm not sure this game franchise could ever successfully transition to film very well. And when I played the game, I never once thought, "Man, this would be a good movie."

I'll pass.

» Posted by Kaz at August 5, 2006 12:03 PM

sweet!!! I like devil may cry and action films so it should be worth checking out. atleast these guys had the balls to give it go... I look forward to it.

» Posted by xcelsior at August 5, 2006 01:05 PM

I can't wait to see it! There are some awesome actors/martial artists in this baby! ;)

» Posted by Sonya at August 5, 2006 02:38 PM

Who the heck is Joel/Demon and Cassius? I thought they were following the plot of the 3rd game....My lord! Why would they need to change anything at all? Devil May Cry 3's story is completely straightforward and not complicated. I don't see how it could be too large of a story at all, just take every part of the game page by page. It's a straightforward story that could easily fit into a two or two and a half hour movie. A lot of the game is the levels inbetween anyway, with cutscenes before the level, before the boss, and after the level.

» Posted by Lloyd at August 5, 2006 05:28 PM

Also, just as DarkmanPoe said....where are is all the Gothic Architecture, and incredible demons? The screens they've given us show us a parking lot. Who is Nelo listed there? That guy obviously isn't Vergil or Nelo Angelo, so what is this other new character in addition to Cassius and Joel?

» Posted by Lloyd at August 5, 2006 05:32 PM

relax already... it's a short film not a full length feature. I'm sure it'll be interesting, but no one could do dmc full blown without a mega budget. you people need to find a hobby or something... I never critisize people who go out and make things happen instead of bitching about everybody else who does.

» Posted by razor at August 5, 2006 06:38 PM

Agreed, razor. I think that for an independent film based on a VIDEOGAME, it looks very intriguing. The only things I'd like to see in this flick are some good and fast martial arts fighting scenes and some gunplay.
I doubt the director had the crew and budget capable of supporting the type of mega-sized CG you'd normally see on an 8-digit-budget of a summer blockbuster (PotC:Dead Man's Chest a good recent example). I'd be surprised if there's even any wire work in the movie.

» Posted by Frank at August 6, 2006 12:49 PM

"I never critisize people who go out and make things happen instead of bitching about everybody else who does."

Wow, how noble. One has to wonder what you're doing here on this crummy message board when you could be out there making the world a better place.

» Posted by DarkmanPoe at August 6, 2006 01:24 PM

I've read that there is wirework and cg effects in the film, as well as lots of action.

» Posted by razor at August 6, 2006 01:42 PM

Nice shots. Looks intensed. I can't wait to see the trailor. Much luck to your success.

» Posted by Posta Boy at August 6, 2006 04:18 PM

An adaptation of DMC 3 would be redundant...it already exists!
A live-action interpretation of DMC is, by it's nature, going to be radically different than the games, otherwise, it would have to be animated or CG (ala Final Fantasy).
From what I've read, this is an independant film that these guys are paying for themselves, and like xcelsior said above, at least theyve got the balls to try.

» Posted by shiftspace surfer at August 6, 2006 06:33 PM

Shutup DarkmanPoe.

This looks very nice for a fan film, can't wait to see the trailer.

» Posted by Quine at August 6, 2006 11:53 PM

How does this look nice for a fan film? You have six stills that show virtually nothing! Untill I see a trailer (not a trailor) I'll hold my piece.

» Posted by Swarez at August 7, 2006 03:57 AM

"Shutup DarkmanPoe."

Nah...

» Posted by DarkmanPoe at August 7, 2006 10:05 AM

well they nailed dante and lady perfectly, thats for sure

» Posted by Dave at August 7, 2006 10:39 AM

if you look at dmc 2 and 3, they were set in a city not a castle. a castle roze up in the middle of a city, so dmc is not all castles, just part 1.

» Posted by razor at August 8, 2006 07:00 PM

everyone who said that this is shit is not a real dmc fan !

» Posted by Ðestroyer at August 11, 2006 10:18 AM

1. How can any1 pass judgement on this as there has only been a few sparse shots released. If you read about the film, goto R.L scotts my space and forum you will see he is actually trying to be as faithful as possible to the dmc universe. Half u little morons are most likely obsessed fanboys who want all perfect. THIS IS A TRIAL movie short to show capcom execs and for R.L Scott to gain privalages to do the full length movie.
2. You all seem to get it in ur head based just on these pics there is no "huge wardrobe" etc etc these are TEASERS! Get a grip some of you and give the guy a break, you's have no idea how hard it is to make a movie short, let alone a movie. He is making it to try and get a wide audience and just not u little fan boy gimps. That is what a movie is about, trying to get attention from not just the hardcore fans.
3. Just wait till more info comes out until you start slating it from behind your computers u bunch of keyboard warriors!

» Posted by Diablojin at August 16, 2006 06:27 AM

Seems interesting. I'm glad he's trying to stay as faithful as possible to the games, and since this is only a movie short, that's even more preparation to get the final movie down right.

Resident Evil would have been good had it not been for the disgusting deviation that RE2: Apocalypse brought. It was a mediocre action movie at best, and I was very disappointed, especially seeing the potential the first movie brought.

Silent Hill was a step in the right direction (despite any complaints it garnered). It's only flaw was the filler lines throughout the movie. It's the Legolas effect, they try and fit lines into the movie so the actors can actually act. They had that problem with this movie, since in the games there is barely any speaking, since there are barely any interactions with other characters.

This seems promising, and considering that the game is very action oriented, rather than driven on story, the writers won't have to worry TOO much about what to add with original content once they prepare for the full movie. All they need is authentic Characters and the basic story premise that Dante and Vergil are half demon sons of Sparda. Whatever they do other than that is fine with me.

does any one know when the trailer is supposed to come out? because ive been comming to this site pretty much every day for the past month or so hoping there would be a preview

» Posted by Dante135 at August 23, 2006 05:31 PM

Ii'd like to see this movie come out and I hope it's what I think its going to be like. The games rocked, the music an the demo reel of Tee was enought to get me excited about this short movie.

» Posted by Shay at August 26, 2006 12:54 AM

I can not wait to see this movie, I am so excited and i know it will do very Well... Yep

» Posted by Casey at August 26, 2006 01:00 PM

Ok so where is this movie then, Nothing has been said about it anywhere on the net and it was supposed to be screened Friday just gone?! and now on R.Ls site all of the blogs have been disabled and a strange hongkong film trailer put on his site!

» Posted by Diablojin at August 29, 2006 07:42 AM

Why don't you all stop winging about the film if you want a good DMC film go make one yourself and the film isn't even out yet!

» Posted by Joe at August 29, 2006 02:35 PM

The film was pushed back due to post production, and the blog links are not disabled. I did hear that a trailer should be up in a couple of weeks though... I can't wait, I hear the action scenes are awesome!!

» Posted by Razor at August 29, 2006 02:50 PM

I can´t wait until it´s out. As long as they give everything to make it look good that´s fine with me. I can´t see a problem??

*sigh* Fanboys/girls gallore. Some don't give a chance to this DMC short at all. *zomg where r deh kewl effects and environments?!* Yeah, screw the story I WANT "CG Hell hounds!" This is a live action short, they have a smaller budget than any big bucks film.

Anyway, I look forward to the short and how you attempt to recreate action with a low budget, and how they will show us the rendition of each character they use in the short.

» Posted by Jackal at October 13, 2006 08:22 AM

I don't know, I think they'll try to make it like dante from DMC2. This is by the guy who penned UNDERWORLD after all.

» Posted by adam at December 6, 2006 09:45 PM

hmm... Dec 20th. and I seem to have calculated that through the infomation retrevial over the past 2 days (yes it takes only 2 days) of searching through pages and pages of absolute crap of people saying weather they like it or not....

I have not found ONE link (or a working one anyway) to a website or a 3rd trailer. or the movie itself despite the movie being in POST PRODUCTION in August. Nor have I found any trace of the movie on the internet.
(please stop linking to R.L. Scotts myspace page. I am thoughly sick and tired of ending up there. It has and leads to nothing but a trailer and the two pictures of Lady&Dante WHICH I AM SICK AND TIRED OF SEEING, YES WE'VE SEEN LADY AND DANTE OVER 100 TIMES WHILE LOOKING AT THE INTERNET)

I do wish to see this movie and I wont FANGIRL it or FLAME it till I've SEEN. IT. ALL. (keywords people. Read these Keywords)

so I will ask this question directly hoping someone will answer this properly and not just skip it.

"When Will this movie be out?"

and

"Where can I get/download it?"
(in australia)

I hope someone can shed at least a little light on this subject.

» Posted by Nina Ryomi at December 20, 2006 05:50 AM

It's held up in post right now as they get the CGI done. I don't believe they've set a firm date for completion yet.

» Posted by Todd at December 20, 2006 11:46 AM

» Posted by Misteria at January 9, 2007 04:42 PM

» Posted by Dante135 at February 23, 2007 02:25 AM

God people! Stop *****ing! There were only a couple of screens! Expect the finished product to be more like the games. Jesus...Rome wasn't built in a day, you know.

» Posted by Audio_Fade at March 13, 2007 12:03 AM

DUDE its been a year and a 3rd trailer isnt even out yet! This is Bull Shit! I Dont want this to be a FFVII Advent Children Complex where they make a movie of my favorite game, and wait 3 years after all the publicity, and it turns out to be SHIT!

Im not wasting my time anymore on this "Wait for more info! R.L Scott~" crap, dude, your not supposed to Advertise till 3 months release, not a year WTF! Your just making this movie for money, and for credit, and well your no better than GWB!

Unless this Asswhole tells us when it comes out, ima forget about this Film.

I've enjoyed playing the Devil May Cry games, they are quite entertaining none the less. The thought of making a movie of Devil May Cry did not cross my mind, how ever, I hope that when the trail comes out, if it ever does, that it will be interesting and shall not be a let down. In the DMC games there are several bosses, are you going to include all of them in the games? As well as other characters that are in the DMC games? I hope that the progress on this yet to be film will quicken and that it will not be waste of time and money. I hope this shall not be a let down.
