Writer/Director J.J. Abrams has signed deals with Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. totalling an estimated $55 million dollars, perhaps even as high as $68 million dollars over the next six years if his projects do well. He has committed his Bad Robot company to work on films for Paramount for the next five and on television for Warner for the next six. His contract with Warner has a back-end clause in it that gives Abrams 35% of revenue on syndication, DVD sales and internet downloads. This will make him one of the highest paid directors in Hollywood.
Abrams struck television gold with the shows Felicity [I watched it for the Pink Ranger, didn't you?], Alias [I should have watched it for Jennifer Garner] and Lost [I watch it because it is good]. Abrams then walked into the fray of what is Hollywood directing with his debut Mission Impossible 3. While it is the weakest performer of the franchise I submit that that is mostly because of the type of year that Cruise has had and public opinion about him and not so much that it was a bad film.
And so we eagerly await Season 3 of Lost and Trekkies perhaps are chomping at the bit knowing that Abrams is producing and directing the eleventh Star Trek film. I care not to get into that discussion since I don't give a rats about the Star Trek franchise. Except I will say this. Number eleven. Odd number. Everyone knows the even numbered ST movies are superior. Your work is cut out for you Mr. Abrams.
Oh, and I love this quote too. "The executive teams at both of these companies understand what we're building at Bad Robot, and I can't wait to get to work," Abrams said in a release. ''I have nothing against larger budget films but ... I know that some pretty powerful stories can be told for somewhere under $200 million." Wow. That is awesome. Under $200 million you say? Well then, I have a story to tell and I won't ask for anything more than $199,999,999.99. I'm not greedy after all. At least he dreams big.
$55 million dollars ??? That's shitload of money.
The only thing that matters is: will this have any effect on Lost ?
Anyway Lindelof & Lieber are as good as Abrams, at least judging by season 2.
Humbly submitted:
I'm pretty sure the consensus is that Star Trek X Nemesis broke the curse in a bad way. All bets are off for the Star Trek franchise, which pretty much means it's all going to suck from here on in, odd numbered or not.
Good riddance. Humanism is so 1980s.
This guy's spreading himself a bit thin theses days. LOST sucked BIG last year. Disney's not going to be very happy with this "Home Along" crap.
worst post ever
He's not dircting the STAR TREK film, at least not definitely. So far he has only signed on as producer and is developing the project.
Was that under 200 million comment a shot directed at Singer?
fucking catty directors.
Nord
Or, more likely, was that under 200 million comment a typo?
fucking repeating zero keys.
Caterpillar: Yep. I was just going by IMDB about the direction thing. You know how this industry works. All the back and forth and last minute decisions. I'm not holding my breath about it though.
