To celebrate the launch of their new show Eureka - review here - the SciFi Channel has offered up a big ol' prize pack to Twitch readers that includes a Sci Fi messenger bag, Triangle DVD, Ghost Hunters DVD and season 2 of Battlestar Galactica. That Battlestar set alone makes this one healthy prize offering and so, accordingly, I've made this one of our more difficult contests.
The Eureka premiere prominently features pattern recognition and so I've opted to do a pattern recognition test of our own. Here's how it works. I've taken the opening paragraph of a famous sci-fi or fantasy novel that has a direct tie to the SciFi Channel (i.e. they have either produced or aired a film or television series based on this work) and run it through the magically wondrous Babelfish. Several times. This great work has just been unceremoniously auto-translated between English and French, German, Russian, Japanese and Greek - in that order - and subsequently garbled beyond recognition. To have a shot at the prize pack you must correctly identify the work cited. Got it? Here it is, with place names blanked out to keep it from being too easy:
The attack that as for that of island [placename removed] vdol6posle it gives kacw's the 4 point they rise also because in thousands in the sea of simple north-eastern mountains makes intensify itself, it is the ground that is acquaintance because Magier that this is. This contest is open to US residents only, send your entries here by July 18th for your shot at the prize.
yet again, no love for Canada
Todd you must help out your fellow Canucks ;)
No love for the rest of the world you mean.
And I think I know the answer to the question.
I would very much like season 2 of Battlestar but DAMN, I don't read too much sci-fi or fantasy... Maybe my BF will know...
Props for a tough contest, though.
I have a good guess, but I just won a contest. Really would like to try for that BSG 2.0 set, though.
I tried to send the email but keep getting a return mail with the error "mailbox is full: retry timeout exceeded"
Is there a max number of entries that can be made for this contest?
Weird ... the contest mailbox is unlimited so there's no way it can be full. Keep trying.
Still not sure what the problem was but the contests email is working again ...
Perhaps a little too easy for anyone with the right reading background.
