HorrAR: Remake of Adrián García Bogliano's ROOMS FOR TOURISTS (HABITACIONES PARA TURISTAS) for American market moves closer to realization

rooms_tourists_usdvd.jpgAccording to the official blog for Paura Flics, the remake of Adrián García Bogliano's horrAR (i.e., Argentine horror) movie Rooms for Tourists (Habitaciones para turistas) for the American market is moving closer to realization. Diane Weipert (who co-wrote the screenplay for Carlos Bolado's Sólo Dios sabe) has completed the first draft of the screenplay for the remake, based on the story by Adrián García Bogliano and his older brother Ramiro García Bogliano (a.k.a. the García Bogliano brothers).

Here are some of the changes that Weipert has made to the story: The setting has been changed from the interior of the Province of Buenos Aires to the streets of the Mississippi (which doesn't necessarily mean the State of Mississippi). The names of the five protagonists (all of them young women) have been changed from Theda, Elena, Ruth, Lydia, and Silvia to Clara, Megan, Jenna, Ruth, and Mathilda, respectively. A sixth protagonist, Rachel, has been added.

Rooms for Tourists premièred at the Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre (BARS) film festival on October 30, 2004. (Note that, like Ryan Nicholson's Live Feed, it predates Eli Roth's Hostel.) Strand Releasing released it on DVD in the U.S. on April 25th.

Those who are interested in Rooms for Tourists may also wish to read the Twitch articles on Adrián García Bogliano's Night Yell (Grité una noche), his 36 Steps (36 pasos), Daniel de la Vega's Death Knows Your Name, Hernán Findling's Director's Cut, Damián Adalberto Leibovich and Juan Cruz Varela's Los inquilinos del infierno, and Sergio Esquenazi's Dead Line (Interference) - a.k.a. "Interferencia".

Oh, come on ... the horrAR thing makes me laugh every time I see it. It's a far more entertaining label than j-horror, anyway.

And personally I'd prefer Twidiot.

...though we won't name names. Just had Diane Weipert over for breakfast and we talked at length about this remake. I hope to have notes up soon.

oh it sucks, why all this fucking american people think they such better to think they would do a better work. "habitacione para turistas" is a great movie, so why making a remake. they ruined the exelent"nueve reinas" movie once with "criminals", nobody needs to do the same thing again. please dont remake anything again its better to do new things.
