각설탕 (Lump of Sugar) Teaser Trailer Released

(Posted In Asia Drama Trailer Alert )

lumptrailer.jpgWhile most people would probably rather see something from 싸이보그지만 괜찮아 (I'm a Cyborg, But That's Ok), the latest Park Chan-Wook film she's starring in alongside singer-turned-actor Rain, Im Soo-Jung will also come back to theaters this summer with her latest Drama, Lee Hwan-Kyung's 각설탕 (Lump of Sugar). The title refers to the second favourite food of Im's horse in the film. After carrots, obviously.

Director Lee previously helmed the 2004 Gwiyeoni screen adaptation 그놈은 멋있었다 (He Was Cool) -- which might have been 'cool', but it sure wasn't 'good' -- and the theme of 'one girl, one horse' and their relationship doesn't promise too well. Still, the talent in front of the camera is there, with Yoo Oh-Sung and Jung Kyung-Ho joining Im in the film, which is releasing on August 10 just like Kim Ki-Duk's 시간 (Time) and Lee Jae-Yong's 'Bollywood meets Sex is Zero' 다세포 소녀 (Dasepo Naughty Girls). We'll see which one ends up winning the battle, but something tells me Lee Jae-Yong's raunchy comedy might be the one.

Thanks a lot for the trailer link X. Looks better than I was expecting. I was just expecting it to be entertaining fluff, but it actually looks quite dramatic.

As far a "He Was Cool" goes, I actually enjoyed some parts of that film, though I'm not saying it was a good film, but I did find it entertaining.
Hopefully the director manages to make a better film this time, since it looks like it has potential.

I actually quite liked He Was Cool as well. And Temptation of Wolves. I dunno, lowered expectations, perhaps, but whilst overall they were staggeringly silly, cliched, manipulative, insulting et al - typical glossy teen-flick stuff ;) - there were several parts of each film I thought were really well filmed, hugely entertaining and great fun to watch. At least I know it's not just me. :D

Romance of their own (Temptation of the Wolf in Korean) and He Was Cool were actually written (or at least the original novel was) -- and I know I'm insulting 99% of Korean novelists saying 'written' -- by the same person, back then highschooler Gwiyeoni, hence the similar tone.

I knew that. That's why I mentioned both of them. ;)

Looks like YesAsia updated the release date on the Korean DVD of Lump Sugar. According to their preorder page, it will be out on November 23, 2006 (If the date is right.)

A few days ago, they had it listed as coming out at the end of December which was after even the HK disc. The Korean distributor has wisely decided to release it before The Host comes out on DVD. I think that Lump Sugar would have put up better box office numbers if it hadn't gone head to head with The Host.

This is great news though, I thought I'd have to wait two more months to see it, and now it'll be just one month. Hurray!
Im Soo-Jung is my favorite Korean actress (as many of you might already know.)
