Johnnie dips his 'To' into the movie pool again - announces new film

In what coud be called 'The Year of To' HK uber-director Johnnie To announced another new project the other day. Having just signed a contract with Meridian Pictures to direct 3 to 4 pictures over the next 6 years starting in 2007 To announced that he will direct a supernatural tale titled Butterfly Flies. Meridian joins Butterfly Flies with Milky Way and newcomer Sundream Motion Pictures as the Mainland distributor. This is course makes things very interesting for To as the script will have to be approved by China as this is a Mainland/HK production. The mainland hasn't been too kind to To recently what with all the PR material burning and all.

Butterfly Flies will be a romantic story with a supernatural element. It is about a girl [Li Bingbing - A World without Thieves] who has a fight with her boyfriend [Taiwanese singer and TV soap star Vic Chou] right before he dies in an accident. She gets depressed, but then she meets his ghost.

Shooting will begin in August.
