A Sequel To Screamers In The Works! UPDATED

(Posted In Action Film News Horror Sci-Fi / Fantasy USA and Canada )

screamers.jpgHere's a little tease for you from someone in a position to know:

"The original writer and producers of the 90's sci-fi horror flick "Screamers" (and strangely one of my favorite sci-fi movies of the era, right behind "Hardware") are coming back for a sequel. That's an exxxxxxxxxxxxxclusive scoop."

That's literally all I've got on this, though I've been promised more details are forthcoming. I'm not up on my Screamers history enough to be certain whether the 'original writer' would be Dan O'Bannon or Miguel Tejada-Flores - both credited on the original - but both have a stack of fun titles to their credit and the simple fact that this will be a re-teaming of the original creative crew is enough to make me a happy boy. Is it too much to hope Peter Weller will appear on the scene as well? Someone needs to return that man to his former cult glory ...

*** UPDATE ***

Word from on high is that the writer on this will be Miguel Tejada-Flores.

The original was vastly underrated. I hope the sequel doesn't turn out as some kind of 10-years-later-afterthought C-movie.

I thought it was great myself. I'm not sure what I think about a sequel, though.

SCREAMERS wasn't bad at all. I'd pick it up if it got a decent DVD release. That doesn't mean I'm having very high hopes for a sequel, though. As for Richard Stanley's HARDWARE, I have it on good authority that Subersive will release that sometime in 2007 as a stacked special edition.

SCREAMERS was just recently discussed in the forum under a thread in the main film section.

A great little piece of sci-fi from Dan O'Bannon's pen - one of the genre's great modern talents (his involvement in the ALIEN VS. PREADTOR series notwithstanding).

What Collin said. Great little way to spend a couple hours with a few like-minded sci-fi/horror geeks. Great canadian movie. Hope they do something interesting, because I can't see this title being able to generate much 'built-in' audience that the Slap Shot and Starship Troopers delayed sequels did.

Wow, forgot all about this little gem. I loved the original quite a bit, but a sequel? Hm...I'm not sure how I feel about that...

Oooh. Awesome. The original film had some good stuff going for it, but lost steam half way through and had a pretty lame ending. The concepts and situations were great though. Maybe the sequel will do justice.

hmmm, methinks the other writer would've been better.

I enjoyed this one... The original PKD short story is very good too... It has a very different focus... An interesting adaptation to say the least!

Also Dan O'Bannon did some work on Lifeforce (1985) a favorite 80's Sci-Fi...

cheers~!
