Though doing so risks qualifying as saying something nice about Uwe Boll and thus taking myself out of the running for a boxing match with the man I must say that In The Name of The King is moving into guilty pleasure territory. A new trailer has hit online and while 'clunky' is far too kind a description for the dialogue this one is helped greatly by the genuinely impressive scope of some scenes, an honest-to-god quality action choreographer in Tony Ching, and a cast that clearly knows exactly what sort of movie (i.e. bad) this is. Boll wants it to be Lord of the Rings but it clearly isn't. Honestly, it's not even Krull. But it does look to contain some very nice action sequences and a good dose of giggles, whether intentional or not.

Todd, be careful how you phrase that dude. I'd hate to see you knocked off your opportunity to kick the shit out of Boll.

Boll probably never played the games, both 1 and 2. The film looks really.... cheap. I don't really understand if it was really necessary to put martials arts in this movies. Ok, there is some "tricks" in the games but, it really makes the movies looks like a big mix of anything for anything. I have this impression when I see a trailer like this. I hope the nice theme song will be not in the movie, it will just make the tune bad.
I'm with you, Bob. Tony Ching brand of action cheorgraphy doesn't exacty fit with this type of film.
That song is from Children of Dune. I've noticed it has heavy play in Russel Crowe trailers. Its a great track.
whats with this guy why wont he stop!!!!!!!!!!!
He really needs somebody to cut his trailers properly. This one mad all the wrong timing choices all the time.
Ehm, where are those so called nice action sequences?
I really wouldn't have guessed they had a famous choreographer on board, looking at this cowdung of a trailer...
Oh dear god. Look at the cast.. *dies*
For those wondering if I've lost my mind, the key phrase in that post was 'guilty pleasure'. It still looks a like a very bad film, but the badness in this case seems to draw giggles out of me rather than winces ...
The nice action sequences? I like the treetop chase rather a lot. Yeah, I agree with everyone that has said Ching's work is out of place here, but it's still Ching and I like him.
I really want to know what Boll does to get these casts ... and then what he does to get rid of their talent. Man, every line Liotta delivers in the three trailers so far is just a screamer. Reynolds looks wretched, too. Rhys-Davies can mail this sort of stuff in and it looks like he has, but Statham actually looks passable, though no matter what he does he'll still be saddled with playing a lead character so under developed that everyone remains perfectly happy referring to him as 'Farmer'. Yeah, I know it's the game character, but come on ... suspension of disbelief only goes so far.
I think the key item in what makes Boll get all this talent is...money, and lots of it. They probably get paid better on this film than most of the other films they've done. Didn't he get like 60 mills to do this flick?
Come on, Todd. We all know you only posted it so you could skip the Boxing match.
Part of me almost thinks that one day Boll will come out and say that everything he's done is the world's longest performance piece.
But then I remember he's not that smart.
...in the peaceful land of... CRAP!
First Uwe Boll movie I'm interested in :-) I'm a sucker for barbarian/fantasy movies even if they look like an amateuristic LOTR rip-off. And the cast looks great (just their names, the acting looks baad) and, yes, even some of the fights look ok. Todd is always right.
An interesting note about exactly how Boll attracts actors of the caliber he normally attracts: he has gone on record saying that if you wait until mere weeks before production on a film and send out offers, you'll probably get a heap of yes's back because most actors will find holes in their schedules and want to pick up some easy green. Most other films book people months in advance, but Boll seems to be onto something here. Clearly, being appropriate for a role is not a consideration, but Boll has more or less admitted that. Burt Reynolds as a medievel king? In a disreputable, sidelong manner, that approaches genius, Dr. Boll.
