Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know most of you don't like the poster on the left. But anyway, the US trailer for The Descent has just been released. In my opinion, it reveals too much. For those of you who don't like spoilers, I'd recommend not watching it before you've actually seen the movie. But for those of you who have seen it, overall, they did a pretty decent job, and the trailer made me jump at some moments. So here it is
The Descent trailer
what a irritating women, i don't think i will like this one
You're right. This gives away far too much. I remember seeing it in England last summer when I only knew what my friend told me. All the surprises were great. Still, it's an awesome movie.
rohtop give this one a shot, it's extremely well done. The pacing and tension is terrific. Wherever they shot it, in real locations or a sound stage is awesome.
I can't see the trailer because I don't have quicktime 7 but I'm guessing the irritating woman is the dark haired asian girl if it is her all I can say is that her character works very well in the movie. All the women give strong performances and this definitely ain't no "chick flick".
Lent my DVD of this and a bunch of others including BD13 to a friend and didn't tell him anything about it and THE DESCENT is the one he raved about after.
But I've heard they're changing the ending for the north american release, ending it on a upbeat note which I guess means the last few seconds are cut which kinda sucks since they were like a last twist of the knife.
I don't get what the big deal about this movie is. It was just like any other mutant thriller/horror out there (ie. Mimic etc). There isn't anything unique about this one except that all the characters are women.
Hey, I love that poster! Anyway, the less you know about The Descent (including the fact it kicks all sorts of asses), the better. It will be released theatrically in Brazil as Abismo do Medo (Abyss of Fear) in July 28th.
I must disagree with those who say this is just like other horror mutant movies out there. This is simply not the case. What sets "The Descent" apart is that the characters are very well drawn, you get to know their personalities and you get to care about them. This makes their plight all the more horrific. On top of this, these characters undergo a transformation rather unique in the genre that makes the movie very different from the rest. When I was watching it, I felt I was suddenly watching a film with several Ellen Ripleys in it. You know, in Aliens when Ripley goes to rescue Newt and the Queen screams and Ripley turns around and has that look in her face that says "oh, really BITCH?" and then she goes Terminator on the egg chamber? THAT's what this movie makes you feel in the last half. Terrific, just terrific. Oh, and if they change the ending (which I hope they don't) they better include the option to watch the original ending when they release the dvd. THEY F$%CKING BETTER DO THAT!!!
The best part about discovering THE DESCENT for me was that I watched it one evening rolling my eyes and anticipating another THE CAVE. I had no idea what the creatures would be like or if they even would be creatures or what. Just totally clueless. It kicked my ass in.
The best thing about Descent is that poster. It hardly makes sense, if you think about it, but it looks great and is much better than that pedestrian monster movie.
aha! two people liked the poster. i knew there were other fans out there.
Well the poster looks great because they ripped it off from a master surrealist, Salvador Dali came up with that image around 60 years ago.Google Dali photographs to see the original.
Awesome horror movie. I can think of several ways to interpet the ending.
I have to agree with methosb on this one. While in no way whatsoever is this a bad movie, I just don't see what all the fuss is about. And comparisons to the original ALIEN? Please. I imported the uncut version and was psyched to see it, but when it ended, I simply shrugged. While I'll admit that Giles des Rais is correct in that the characters are much more fleshed out than your average horror schlock, the suspense, for me, just wasn't there. The creatures just sort of show up. No real build up. And I expected more of a relentless ass-kicking once they did appear, but it seemed as soon as they showed up, the movie was over. I don't know, certainly not horrible, but it's definitely not the masterpiece it's made out to be. I watched it once and then sold the DVD.
This is the only film that I've seen that made me feel clostrophobic. You have to see it in the theatre or on a big screen with a kick ass sound system. Last years best horror film by far.
