Finally! A Trailer For Thai Super Hero Flick Mercury Man!

(Posted In Action Asia Film News Martial Arts Trailer Alert )

mercuryman1small.jpgIt's been almost a year now since we last posted about Thai super hero film Mercury Man and FINALLY a trailer has appeared online. And it looks gooooood. The film is about a fireman in Bangkok who gains super powers after an on the job accident and puts his new powers to use fighting terrorists and other assorted bad guys. The kicker on this? It's produced by Ong-Bak director Prachya Pinkaew and has stunt choreography by Panna Rittikrai, the choreographer of Ong-Bak and director of Born to Fight.

The word I'm hearing is that post production is taking longer than expected and the film is expected to open in Thai theaters in 2007.

He looks like Spawn and moves like Spiderman. Hope this kicks ass.
Who is the director?

» Posted by Swarez at June 14, 2006 09:55 AM

Director's name is Bandit Thongdee. He did a film called The Unborn a while back. Here's a synopsis that we ran earlier:

"Chan, a firefighter, is accidentally granted an unnatural superpower from holy objects called Leklai. Realizing both of the positive and negative side of this power, Chan tries to keep its in balance and in the mix with his own blood. At the same time, he is hunted by the mafia group who wants to take back this superpower."

I hope the CG isn't as heavy as indicated in the trailer. They're getting better at that stuff, but I think they should pull back a bit. Thai studios, I mean.

This looks like it could be fun though!

It'll be great for sure, in case of action-hero movie, because of his credits can guaranty in this movie a lot.

The character Mercury Man definitely looks cool (I agree he does have that Spawn/Spider-Man look to him). Can't really tell what type of super powers he has (electrical? fire? super speed? magical?). The main villain at the end looks kind of goofy however (the Iceman like character). Hopefully there will more information on this movie in the coming months.

Looks promising, but as Swarez said - that face practically is Spawn.

Eh. Looks like an Indian version of Streetfighter to me.

Looks cool, but I also got a spawn/spiderman vibe off it, though that's not a bad thing at all. I'll just have to wait patiently for an American dvd release I guess.

Wow, I'm surprised by how un-shoddy the trailer was. The superhero stuff looks pretty fantastic, even if I don't get what his powers are. They seemed a bit Magneto-esque. Is that right?

Either way, the movie looks seriously fun, and the fighting looks great as well. Hope this hits DVD fast!

And Plague, could you be more ignorant? Indian? It's frigg'n Thai, buddy.

» Posted by crazybee at June 15, 2006 01:39 AM

Yes, I can be be MORE friggin' ignorant, btw.
I was readin' about an Indian film when I wrote it.
Either way, it still looks like cheap Sci Fi channel fodder.
You guys jump over anything like horny schoolboys.

Ive seen some behind the scenes footage and caught a quick glimse of what I think was Tony Jaa wearing the Mercury Man costume minus the mask, he is only there for a second as he walks past the camera and smiles. He is not credited as being in the film but im 95% sure it was him(who better to portray superhuman fighting skills & he is part of Panna Ritikrais stunt team) if you want to see for yourself check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfwGpdfg5L4 he appears 2:19 into it
