Now here's some happy news from a film that seemed in danger of slipping by the wayside. Yasuaki Nakajima's After The Apocalypse is a remarkable piece of independent film making, a starkly black and white picture shot in a future New York devastated by biological warfare. It's a piece that fans of Tsukamoto and Lynch will want to cuddle up with and one of the more striking independent efforts that I've come across in a good while. And I've just gotten word that the film is finally commercially available on DVD directly from the film maker via the film's website. It's a very worthwhile effort ... give it a look.

After the Apocalypse Review
Interview With Director Yasuaki Nakajima
I got to admi you got me interested. I can't afford it now though.
I got to meet the director of this film a few months ago - he has an incredible independent spirit to him, and his film reflects the motivations of a genuine artist working within the medium. This dvd is definitely something to pick up, and hopefully we will see something new from him soon.
Yeah, we showed this at the Chicago Asian American Film Festival and took Nakajima out to drinks afterwards. swimmingpool is right on--the dude's intentions are unstoppable. I wasn't a fan of After the Apocalypse, but you can't deny his spirited attitude.
