After KD Media's initial release of Kang Je-Gyu's 2004 blockbuster 태극기 휘날리며 (Taegukgi), there were rumours that another version with more special features -- and possibly a different cut of the film, something which Director Kang quickly denied -- would be released in the near future. That 'near' quickly became 'not so near' and ended up as 'not likely' in a matter of months, but be it because of the World Cup, or because the DVD market in Korea seems to be slowly recovering after hitting rock bottom early this year... we'll be waving the flag a little more, come this Summer.
The first release, save for KD Media splitting the film over two discs, was quite good, with very interesting Special Features. But this thing, released on June 28, is just a MONSTER, with 400 Minutes of Extra Features (That's almost 7 hours for you). SEVEN HOURS. Anyhow, specs:
Disc 1 features: Film (Part 1, 108 Minutes) - DD5.1 and Dts; English, Japanese, Korean and Hard of Hearing Subs; Commentary with Director Kang Je-Gyu, Jang Dong-Gun, Won Bin; An explanation track for the those who can't see the film [think 말아톤 (Marathon) DC]. Disc 2 features: Film (Part 2, 49 Minutes) - Commentary with Director Kang Je-Gyu, PD Lee Sung-Hoon, DP Hong Kyung-Pyo, Production Designer Shim Bo-Kyung; Same technical specs as the previous disc. Disc 3 features: Special Features Part 1 (233 Minutes) - Various Featurettes and documentaries. Disc 4 features: Special Features Part 2 (177 Minutes) - Lots of CGI-related Extras and more. Out on June 28. [DVD Prime]
Anyone know if the extras are subtitled?
They're not.
Damn, that's a lot of stuff. Too bad the movie was crapola...
