Subtitles still get to me. They have in the past, they will in the future.
Anyway, couple of odd things this week - first one to note, and it's a shame to put it here but it's in my mind now I am writing this post, is that Thai DVD of 'Daisy' is said to not actually include English Subtitles as the listing on Thai sites says it does . The second one is that 'Zoo' did come out in Thailand on DVD and was listing as not having English Subtitles when it does have them.
Now here's the key one for this post, brought to my attention by someone posting a CDJapan link in the previous post about the 'Eli Eli...' DVD headed out in Japan during late July 2006 : they now have 'English Subtitles' listed. Oddity is, that the listing adjustment counts for the Special Edition only.
I would hold on.
Checking around Japanese retailers for some time and not managed to see them making the same adjustment in information. One president that comes to mind is that the limited edition 'Full Metal Alchemist' DVD for the movie contained Subtitles and the regular edition didn't. Remember, Asano movies often has Subtitles for their Japanese releases.
Still hope for 'Umoregi' and 'Tokyo Zombie'? Could be too late for those ones, might not actually be happening for 'Eli Eli...' either. We will see. Wouldn't panic just yet, just showing my frustration and joy at what could be happening.
So the thai edition of Zoo HAS english subtitles?? Damn I'm gonna grab it now!
where can I order zoo?
for thai DVDs we recommend either ethaicd.com or thaicdexpress.com : both take paypal, both use prices that include postage, both have good service if not top class...
Actually, prices at thaicdexpress.com do not include postage...
You're welcome for the info!
Anyway, I think I'm done taking the plunge to figure out if these DVDs actually have subs. My bank account can't take it anymore!
thanks for the links guys!
I just ordered Zoo and the special edition of Eli eli, the soundtrack cd alone deserves that price.
I've heard of at least three cases where cdjapan actually refunded the price of the DVD and on top of that let the customers keep it, when it turned out their info was wrong and the dvd didn't have english subs after all.
Don't quote me on that one though as it hasn't happened to me, just what I've heard from various buyers before.
Personally I'm going to wait as well - it looks promising but could just be an error really.
I preordered the Azumi twin pack last year from CDJapan, because both movies were supposed to have English subs. Since only the first movie had English subs CDJapan presented two options. Return the set for a full refund, or keep the set and get 2500 yen in store credit, which was about 36% of the price of the set.
I kept the set, and got the store credit.
I hope cdjapan is right since they putted also on the homepage the news about english subs on the movie...
The 90's Gamera box had english subtitles but the individual releases did not.
Hi, I'm part of the CDJapan team, so I figured I'd post here to clear up some questions.
I actually found this discussion the first time I was looking up information on the movie (to help translate the product information). I had our support team call up the maker to see whether the Japanese release would have English subtitles or not.
They got back to us a week or so later (and then again last week to confirm for both the standard and special editions) and the official position of the maker is that the release WILL include English subtitles.
Of course, those of you who ordered "Azumi 2" know that sometimes the makers change their minds. However, as far as CDJapan knows, the official line is that the DVDs will have English subs.
Hope that helps.
