태풍 (Typhoon) DVD Up For Preorder

(Posted In Action Asia DVD News Drama )

typhoondvd.jpg20 Billion Won budget; Pan-Asian star Jang Dong-Gun combined with domestic stars Lee Jung-Jae and Lee Mi-Yeon (and God-like presence Kim Gab-Soo); Directed by Kwak Kyung-Taek, someone who knows what big hit means, if you remember 친구 (Friend). So, what went wrong? On the financial side, not that much. The film sold more than 4 Million tickets, which doesn't mean breaking even, but with foreign distrib. sales counted in it shouldn't be much of a problem reaching that magic figure. The problem, as it's always the case with blockbusters, is why.

Why did a capable Director like Kwak focus his attention on an allegedly bloated affair like 태풍 (Typhoon), when he's shown before low key works like his Busan-drenched 똥개 (Mutt Boy) work just as well? The press panned the film for wasting money, wasting actors, and putting all the fire where it clearly didn't need any. But, hey, it's still Kwak Kyung-Taek. Not by any means a great director, but he's from the Kang Woo-Suk mold: at the end of the day you tend to go home happy despite the flaws. Is it bloated crap or entertaining popcorn Cinema? That, folks, is up to you to decide.

And now here's your chance. DVD is finally up for Pre-Order, and a (long) review will come soon as well.

Finally. This film went off the theaters around late January (maybe a little later) and it's taking the longest time to release on DVD. To be honest, I'm a little disappointed. They were supposed to release this movie on VHS around mid May, delayed to May 31, never came out. And they said nothing about the DVD, until now. They said no single thing about the DVD for nearly five months, and the extras seem a little weak for that. *siiiigh*
