Arang... Arang.... what could that possibly mean. Trying to interpret Korean titles sometimes offers you quite the challenge, especially when they're thrown out there, like this 아랑 (Arang). So, I thought, this is a horror thriller, what could that Arang possibly mean?
Arang is two things: the sediments left after the soju making process (which, like, isn't what you'd expect to be tied to a horror film, unless the heroine gets drunk often), and of course the protagonist of a famous legend from the Joseon Dynasty. Arang was daughter of a deputy in Miryang -- not too coincidentally, the Korean title of Lee Chang-Dong's upcoming 밀양 (Secret Sunshine). Trapped by one of her servants, she was faced with the possibility of being raped, but instead of losing her virginity she ended up dying at his hands. Of course Daddy started looking for his precious daughter, without success, which forced him into depression, and early retirement. Little problem: all the people replacing him ended up... dead. Wahhhh... who could that be?
Now you can imagine how the rest of the story goes. Yes, it involves ghosts, but this horror thriller starring Song Yoon-Ah and 마이걸 (My Girl)'s Lee Dong-Wook will only use it as its backbone, and of course it's set in a modern setting. This is the first important film role for Lee, and Song continues to try to change a little her image of the gentle woman next door she built on Tv. Release is set for June 29, and here's a first look:
Teaser Trailer (Streaming, 700k, Windows Media)
Halfway trough the trailer I stopped watching. This is gonna suck big time. Agaaain a girl with long black hair. The scratching nails remind me from Shutter and the ring and the red eye and scary face reminds me of shutter.
This is pretty scary!I watched the whole trailer! That girl really wants that guy dead!I thought this was a thriller but i guess it's a scary one! Must watch if you like scary movies!
Eh I don't know. The trailer is pretty poorly put together but you never know with the Koreans, they can make a pretty effective horror flick from simple, overused material, like they did with Phone, The Wig and Red shoes.
i cant view the teaser...could someone snet it to me??
beside that im Lee Dong-Wook super fan......
thanks...
