Has anyone else signed that petition going around to outlaw the use of Napoleon Dynamite catch phrases? Okay, okay, I’ll admit that I still find myself wanting to yell, “Bow to your sensei!” during intimate moments but really folks unless you can dance as well as Jon Heder don’t even turn the music on. The only saving grace here is that unlike a lot of recent SE’s (uh..cough Munich..coughcough) this one really is worth the price of the extra disc.
Napoleon Dynamite offered an original vision that fell somewhere between after school special and just…uh…special. Those that didn't get it decried the whole affair as an exercise in chicer than thou hipsteristic mean spiritedeness. The rest of us however realize realize the the appeal of the film rests solely in ones ability to embrace the geek within. Napoleon is cooler than any of those hipster types.
You get all the Special Features from the first version with a bunch of others. Thankfully everyone resisted the urge to have Pedro, Napoleon and Rico do a commentary of their own. Disc 1 offers the last versions commentary by Director/Co-Writer Jared Hess, Actor Jon Heder and Producer Jeremy Coon as well as an all new one by actors Aaron Ruell, Efren Ramirez, Jon Gries and Tina Majorino. Disc 2 has the 5 Deleted/Extended Scenes with commentary by Director/Co-Writer Jared Hess, Actor Jon Heder and Producer Jeremy Coon along with new outtakes and additional deleted/extended scenes and the featurettes from the last version. Additional new material includes Audition clips, and "World Premiere Jared Hess, “and "On Location: Napoleon Dynamite.”
One more significant holdover from the last edition is Peluca, the short film that inspired the feature. As with the last edition it offers commentary.
