It's been at least a decade since Ivan Reitman made a really good film - you can make a good argument for twice that - but he's back. Oh, yes. Luke Wilson. Uma Thurman. Eddie Izzard. Rainn Wilson. An angry and neurotic ex-girlfriend with super powers. Tee hee.
Russian site Kino-Govno has an early look at the trailer here.
Trailer's gone - yanked at the behest of the studio, I assume. MTV.com apparently has it, but Firefox, Mac, and Linux users can't watch it thanks to the trailer being laced with Microsoft DRM - which rules me out on all counts, since I have no access to a Windows machine. Now, and I've really thought about this for a second, if I was promoting something, particularly something as expensive as a movie, I would want as many people as possible exposed to my promotional materials. If some people decide to provide an additional source for people to get my promotional materials, at no cost whatsoever to me in terms of money or precious, precious bandwidth, then I am at a loss to come up with a single justification for stopping them. It seems downright idiotic, actually. Fortunately, this movie sounds downright toxic, so I doubt I'm missing out on much - but I'd like to be able to bash the trailer, as opposed to bashing the studio behind the film for taking active steps to prevent me from watching their advertising.
I will simply have to assume that this film is so bad that only Windows users who hang out at MTV.com could possibly like it.
Perfectly vieweable with Firefox on mtv.com, get your head out of your ass :p
Mtv.com tells me I have to install some plugin to view it. Probably has something to do with that DRM shit. I agree with Rhythm-X, screw them. I'm not going to jump through their hoops just to see an advertisement.
Works fine with Firefox.
Sounds like user error to me.
I can probably get it to work with Firefox too, that's not the point. I'm just not going to install some useless plugin just to watch their advertisement.
And I think Rhythm-X can't wacht it because he isn't on Windows, which I'm hoping to be sometime in the near future too. Going to start using Ubuntu next week...
I can't vouch for Firefox on Windows, with no easy access to a Windows box - and I assume the Firefox users who are able to access this are on Windows - but that is what I heard, apparently incorrectly. I CAN vouch for the message that I got, the long and short of which was "If you're not on Windows, forget it." Tried it on Firefox, Opera, & Safari browsers on the Mac, and Firefox, Opera, & Epiphany browsers on Ubuntu Linux running on my other computer - it's an excellent alternative for those who are burned out on the "joys" of Windows, and don't need to visit MTV.com - and who does?
I still fail to see how this is good marketing practice.
I installed the plug in, which took less than a minute so I don't see what the problem is.
The trailer itself was so so. I'm not to fond of Thurman but Wilson is funny but not Owen Wilson funny.
Trailer played in front of XMen3.
As Kurt mentioned, it's playing in front of X-MEN 3. That trailer has two or three extra bits that were not in the trailer on the Russian site. I thought it was funny.
She was on Oprah talking about it today & showing clips. They apparently had a blast making the movie, although she said she had to hit her head on a fridge a lot.
Hey, can I get a vote from people out there--does this movie say "chick flick" to you, or not?
