Just got a press release from TLA announcing the acquisition of North American theatrical and home entertainment distribution rights to Son Sono's Strange Circus. Logboy ran a link to the Tom Mes Midnight Eye review of that film awhile ago and upon reading it certainly whets the appetite to explore the director further.
I was one of those who liked Suicide Club alot. It was so much smarter than it's premise allowed and fun when it pretended to be smarter than it was. Watching I had the distinct impression of a director whose vision includes all the elements of storytelling- not just images. And of course as we all struggle with the feeling that US Asian releasing has gotten sloppy of late (think Tartan Asia Extreme) this comes as a very welcome addition to the Danger After Dark label.
Amen to this
Grr - I've just bought the Japanese DVD a few days ago :(
Consider me surprised. Now I just can't wait to see how they will sell a movie about a dad fucking his 12 year old daughter (among other sick shit) to the Best Buy crowd.
eleven arts are also releasing sion sono's 'norikos dinner table' on DVD in the USA later this year... double whammy!
Eleven Arts are not a distributor. They act as a mediator between Japanese license holders and US distributors.
